Question

This riddle is really a poem i once read as a kid, now retold. It is not a tough one, hope you have fun with it. (PS Give my cookie game a chance - see forum topic "cookie break")

It is in truth a strange, ungainly run

Transformed into breathtaking flight

To confront an invisible mountain in its imposing might

The glass whip bends but is not broken in the sun

Takes me to the top of my strength, then takes me beyond

You can only stare, you do not make a sound

Isn’t it so strange I should answer this call

But it’s worth it all despite the endless fall

You will have to scream, it’s too much to bear

When you see me flying through defeated air

Having regard to the first three lines, and with particular reference to uncontrolled flight, it may be observed that a "glider" corresponds to a better guess than an airplane.

While it is readily understood that the said term may not satisfy each of the other lines inclusive of the riddle under reference, it should be understood that any riddle is deemed as unsolved until the official solution has been posted by the author.

In conclusion, the raison d'etre corresponding to my earlier guess was the hope that this may attract some pertinent clue from the author, leading the members(including myself) to guess the actual solution.

No correct answer yet

K Sengupta has the best guess so far, but it is also not the answer

A CLUE

The riddle actually describes something as it happens, in all chronological steps

Hmmm...

I don't seem to have gotten it yet.

But, had the fourth line started with "The wooden whip bends", my guess would have been "boomerang".

These are not correct, you were closer with your first guess because of one crucial element - and that is you were giving me a "who" and not a "what"

So next big clue of the riddle is that the question is "who am I"? not "what am I"?

I didn't really read the other guesses so I'll just throw this out there.

a skydiver.

first stanza, plane taking off

second - flying up, overcoming fears, etc.

third - THE JUMP!

A pole vault athlete.

YESSSSSS!

Really good work K Sengupta (the pole of course is made of fiber glass, the invisible mountan is the height to surmount)

The audience is silent as he jumps and screams with joy during his endles fall through the defeated air :)

Well done x

Ty, dancer.

It really feels great to get one at the end of a long marathon.

Please accept my congratulations for nailing the "Something to look up to..." riddle.
