This thing has been going on in my mind but i am not sure if its correct, is it "TIME", its not concrete but you can see it, its oldest of old and still new. Destroyer, Creator thats straightforward....

Time as in time peice or watch is a jewel (collector's item) for some.

Time / experience is the one that "garnish the tomes of learned men"

... Could it be this or something closer?

I could not fit :( "Maker of many save but two"

No, not T.

One can actually, clealy see it, yet it is not a concrete "thing."

I think this has something to do with light, specifically. Starlight, sunlight, moonlight, etc. Reflected light? Sometimes the sum of the clues precedes the understanding of their meaning inside my head.

Actually, I was thinking something more like

earth? or maybe the ocean?

Each can be destruction and creation of all, save the initial 2 (adam and eve).

Oldest of old and totaly new can fit both since both are ancient and can renew themselves.

Lots have been written on both, so that covers "garnish the tomes"

Anyway, what do ya think?

Edit:

A jewel glinting in the sand

On a darkened beach in a distant land.

A sign for some, for others a gem

To garnish the tomes of learned men.

Maker of many save but two;

Oldest of old, I’m totally new.

Destroyer, creator of all that you see,

Will you lend a name to me?

Color?

A certain Pink Floyd album cover comes to mind. I'm going to go with a prism crystal. It creates the visible light spectrum (No infrared or ultraviolet?) - all but two

Oldest of old, I'm totally new crystals are a symbol of "new age hippy stuff, man"

Thats off the top of my head, I'll let Shakee fill in the blanks if I'm correct.

hmm...its not sun, but its closely related to light..

either one of these "star" or "womb" or "carbon related as a basis of life" is closely related to the answer...

its is something that we can see but its not concrete :wacko:

just thinking aloud...

I think planetary bodies would be too obvious for shakee, its got to be more subtle considering all his metaphors.. and from all the discussion i am pretty sure its gonna be something that was right in front of us :)

A jewel glinting in the sand

On a darkened beach in a distant land.

A sign for some, for others a gem

To garnish the tomes of learned men.

Maker of many save but two;

Oldest of old, I’m totally new.

Destroyer, creator of all that you see,

Will you lend a name to me?

Upon some belated research I noticed that one key line in the riddle can be misleading. Here's an updated version:

A jewel glinting in the sand

On a darkened beach in a distant land.

An omen for some, for others gem

To garnish the tomes of learned men.

Maker of most save but a few;

Oldest of old and totally new.

Destroyer, creator of all that you see,

Will you lend a name to me?
