0 Guest
Definitley sounds like the story of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. If we're meant to guess the item, then I agree with Prof. T that it's an Apple.

0 Guest
also made me think of Rom and Rem. I think I fell into Shakee's trap with my answer. God's gift - sons of Mars meant for none - Rhea was a Vestal white prize - white bull? fair justice - Romulus kills the jealous Remus? The rest doesn't fit any parts of the story that I know though, and you would think there would be some mention of a she-wolf... Pupil held against the bore - makes me think of firing a rifle... To name the evil eye - Nazar?

First 4 lines refering to Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden and the theft of one being the apple of knowledge which Eve took on a dare from the Devil. Lines 5-12 refering to the ejection from the Garden (noble did the white prize pass) and the birth of the first children Cain and Abel (first twins) Cain was greedy and murdered Abel over jealousy (greed). He then lied to God about it. (although a fat lot of good it did him ) God then forbid anyone to kill Cain and placed a mark upon his head. The evil eye is thought to cause envy (Cain's sin) Charms against the evil eye are shaped as eyes themselves.

(Prometheus given Chiron's Immortallity?) Noble did the white prize pass Through hamlet of first twins, And the teacher wed to greed hath grasped Fair justice in the win. (Not sure on this one) One pupil held against the bore, And punished for the lie, Hath risen from the depths of lore To name the evil eye. 0 Guest
Perhaps the twins we're looking for are from another source? Castor and Pollux? Apollo and Artemis? Apolo killed the Cyclops in revenge of his sons death at the hands of Zeus(Cyclops created the lightning bolt) but does that story doesn't really seem to fit into the rest of the rhyme, at least the way I know it. Castor and Pollux(Gemini) have a varied and inconsistent mythology, so maybe one of their stories might fit. I'm no authority, but as a twin myself, I'm very interested in where this is going. Other twins include Freyr/Freyja from Norse mythology? Is Loki part of that litter?

0 Shakeepuddn
As with most of these, a new look reveals certain areas that could use some polish. Here's a minor re-write which may help: Flesh on flesh, back to back, God’s gift revealed for all Though meant for none, and a theft by one, As the greedy dare was called. Demurely did the noble pass Through hamlet of first twins, This teacher wed to greed hath grasped Fair justice in the win. And one pupil held against the bore, Punished for the lie, Hath risen from the depths of lore To name the evil eye.

0 Guest
Since twins are connected to hamlet, it could refer to: 1. twin cities (cities in close proximity to each other, such as St. Paul & Minneapolis. There are a large number of such cities in the world, and in some works of fiction.) 2. cities/towns named after each other? 3. A city within a city (for example the Vatican, inside of Rome)
