Shakeepuddn
On lofty peak or under wave I'm waiting for that fateful day When minors all come to play; pining for to slay. Couples in red lean on doors, poems read, calls to war, Mystic rhymes so abhorred, warning me of stay. Missiles launched in the air, rainbows rupture here and there, Drums burst and bang without a care, and lions dance away. Who am I?

Missiles launched in the air, rainbows rupture here and there, Drums burst and bang without a care, and lions dance away. Who am I? Prom fits, sort of. Flag works as well, but which flag has lions? I looked up some of the festivities involved with Chinese(or Lunar) New Year and I think I'll go with that. The red couples line was especially telling, as they hang red lanterns in doorways in pairs.

0 Shakeepuddn
Grayven and Tryinto . . . definitely in the ballpark, but "who" is the question, as d3 pointed out. I used that term to distinguish "it" from inanimate objects. THAT is a huge hint. Might need a bit more research. You must be referring to the evil spirits that are to be warded off by the aggressiveness of the Lion dance.
0 Shakeepuddn
It's the monster Nian. Chinese Lunar New Year celebrates the yearly battle with Nian, who resides under the sea or high in the mountains and awaits the new year to attack and devour livestock, villagers, and especially children. The color red, the poetic couplets hanging on doors, fireworks, Lion dance, all were to ward him (it) off.Ahh, missed that part. You must be referring to the evil spirits that are to be warded off by the aggressiveness of the Lion dance. No, not evil spirits. One thing, not a spirit. This one's been stagnant for awhile so I'll just give it. Edited February 8, 2009 by Shakeepuddn
