Totem Pole

From the ends of the earth, my name is told: North and South "pole"

Where "new" land meets water and seasons are cold:

Only in the New World in the Pacific northwest were totem poles found.

My looks are scarred with the lines of story:

The "faces" and designs on a totem pole are carved to depict many things, including important events, marriages, battles, etc. It can also be a short history of a family tree. There were also "Shame Poles" that marked shameful deeds by a family or person.
