Opening an umbrella inside the house is considered to bring ill luck.
Isn't it a no-brainer for it is obvious that such an act would hurt someone or worse break something valuable.
This could be a possible explanation but as with a lot of superstitions is accepted without reason. Made easy for a teaser, I'm sure you would expect stiffer standards.

1. A beginner always has good luck: beginner’s luck.
2. Gravity isn’t really a force.
3. Black cat- enough to spur numerous superstitions. Bail these poor kitties out.
4. To walk beneath a ladder brings bad luck.
5. A pinch of salt wards off the evil spirit.
6. Knock twice on wood to reverse bad luck.
7. Don’t groan when someone calls you a pig. Isn’t it “lucky pig”?
8. To break a mirror brings seven years of bad luck.
