Ah, the apocalypse...well there are those rumours that the world is going to end in 2012...*sniff* I'll never finish high school But how likely is that, or anything really? Apparently the world was going to shut down in the year 2000, but here we are I know is has to end EVENTUALLY but I'm waiting for the sun to burn out first I'd say more but I have to go to school <_< but I'll have more for you after English (end of the world is a unit ) <(^-^)>
0 Guest
It is reliably forecast that a great disaster will happen in the year 2012, causing chaos and disruption to all of mankind. But once the London Olympics are over everything should return to normal. As for the end of the world, that's unlikely. Planet X is supposed to come and destroy us, but it was also supposed to do that in 2003. It's a notoriously unreliable planet, mainly on account of it probably not existing. The end of the world happens on such a regular basis these days it takes the shine off it somewhat. It was supposed to end in 2000, and if memory serves correctly I think Nostradamus had it ending some time in the 90's, though I can't be bothered to look that one up. The main basis for the 2012 thing seems to be that this is the end of the Mayan calendar. My calendar ends on 31st December 2008 but I doubt that will cause the world to end. Maybe I'll just buy another calendar.

I don't get why the Mayans planned so far in advance...I don't know what I'm doing next Tuesday, so... After 2012, we'll all breathe out again when we're still here, and plan another doomsday <(^-^)>

0 Guest
The world will, without a doubt, end. However it's not likely to happen soon (I'm not ruling out meteors/comets, humans blowing the earth up, etc. etc.), but eventually it will end. More specifically, the Sun (and all stars) have a finite lifespan. However, the Sun isn't actually just going to fizzle out. First it's going to expand as it runs out of gases to burn, and it's speculated that it will grow out beyond the asteroid belt. At that point Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars will be destroyed, and then some time later the Sun will turn into a black hole. It is hypothesized that this will begin about 5 billion years from now. Science is depressing

Oh man, that almost got me in trouble in my web animation class cause i LOL'd How will the world end? well here are several theories: 1) A comet 2) the sun engulfs us 3) Some country fires a nuclear missle at one country which, in turn, will cause cause everyone else to start launching theirs and all that will be left is Austrailia, but in the end they will die off too, and those pesky kangaroos. 4) California will break off form the rest of the US causing mass panic as the rest of the US won't know what to do without Hollywood....ok maybe not... Science is depressing Our lowly star isn't large enough to form a black hole, it's not even big enough to go supernova. What a sight that would be. It will most likely end it's life as a white dwarf. Sounds diminutive huh?

Hehe.. sounds like "End of ze World". Funniest movie ever! "Ok, while everyone is firing nukes at each other, Australia is just sittin there sayin 'WTF?'" On topic: I think that a comet would be the most likely theory. 1) We would die off long before the sun reached us from excessive heat. 2)The only places that would survive would be: Alaska, California, and Australia. Cuz we're cool (With Alaska it's literally cool!) 0 Guest
Hehe, all this is causing me to burst out laughing in the middle of science class Funny thing is, we are actually learning about star lives, so all the supernova/blackhole thing suits well with my "IT'S WORK NOT GAMING!!!" excuse The chances of a comet/asteroid actually hitting us seems quite unlikely, and I think we'll die off sooner from global warming Polar bears are drowning and dying off, it'll only be a short time before humans die as well Or we could all move to Antarctica and learn how to swim in water really, really well and live off of fish and water (that includes salt water!) <_< Anyhow, I luv how depressing this thread is, but it is so funny!!!! 0 Guest
Haha, I'm using this excuse too. Mind if I steal everyone's ideas for my English Project on Apocalyptic Myths? Right now I'm researching the Greeks and how they thought the world would end...I don't get why everyone doesn't think about the near future instead of some comit/blackhole/religious figure destorying the earth...etc..consuming the human race. <(^-^)> Edit: I know you all want to be in my English Class ... 0 Guest
I know a guy in San Francisco whose ex-boss made a ridiculous amount of money and is now retired to Hawaii where he is funding research into trying to create a black hole. In Hawaii. Apparently it will solve the world's energy problems. In a way it would because if he ever succeeds it will probably be a very small fraction of a second before we're all in Hawaii (nice place, so I've heard). So there should be an infinitessimally small distance to travel to work, which will save on petrol. And we'll save on aeroplane fuel too, since we won't need to go on holiday, on account of the whole world being in Hawaii. Let's hope he gets there before CERN do.* *Quote from the head of Communications at CERN: “There is nothing new to suggest that the L.H.C. is unsafe”. Nicely qualified statement. Good thing is that we still have couple of months to live until they fix it! The sucker broke as soon as they started it! I can't remember what they said... when they gonna go apocalyptic in the doughnut?! In translation when will the particles in it achieve maximum speed?? In few years as I recall...
