Yeah, I was working on figuring out what all of the clues meant (and had gotten remarkably few of them ), and am weak, so I looked at a couple of people's posts for hints on the thought process. I had gotten a couple, but not nearly enough to solve it.

Yep...the second hint was referring the the fact that after you get the two answer "vectors" (one for across, one for down), you have to take their "dot product"...hey, it's my special ability, after all ;P

Yep, good job to all, especially flinchum for finding the twist so quickly! And CL, reading the "notoriously befuddling" puts a huge smile on my face .
