Question

To set the mood:

Morpheus: "I know *exactly* what you mean. Let me tell you why you're here. You're here because you know something. What you know you can't explain, but you feel it. You've felt it your entire life, that there's something wrong with the world. You don't know what it is, but it's there, like a splinter in your mind, driving you mad. It is this feeling that has brought you to me. Do you know what I'm talking about?"

The Puzzle:

Type capital of symbol steak what or prefix a orbital shirt switching

A of charge of or you a for mathematical hybridization symbol circuit

Same next as the the use row a directly around above closed

JLA letter leader set wears to on straight his a chest turns

2-D rotated shape I'm with see infinite chain symmetry triple lines the

Sound pi/2 of from exclamation singular or hydrocarbon a bond question lightbulb

Acknowledgements to Andromeda and Woon for the idea from their riddles

:).

Each "line" provides 1 or 2 letters...but read the subtitle ;P

You'll need to finish it up with a dot.

Well, I've come up with some possibilities

Type capital of symbol steak what or prefix a orbital shirt switching - T

A of charge of or you a for mathematical hybridization symbol circuit

Same next as the the use row a directly around above closed

JLA letter leader set wears to on straight his a chest turns - S

2-D rotated shape I'm with see infinite chain symmetry triple lines the - O

Sound pi/2 of from exclamation singular or hydrocarbon a bond question lightbulb

reheat the leftovers?

Type of steak or a shirt

A charge or a mathematical symbol

Same as the row directly above

JLA leader wears on his chest

2-D shape with infinite symmetry lines

Sound of exclamation or a question

capital of next letter rotated pi/2

symbol of the set I'm from

what you use to see singular

prefix for a straight chain hydrocarbon

orbital hybridization around a triple bond

switching circuit closed turns the lightbulb

horizontal and forgot to look vertically. I knew they couldn't be random words!

Type of steak or a shirt - T

A charge or a mathematical symbol

Same as the row directly above

JLA leader wears on his chest - S

2-D shape with infinite symmetry lines - O

Sound of exclamation or a question

capital of next letter rotated pi/2 - depending on row above, could be (C, H, I, N, U, Z)

symbol of the set I'm from - R

what you use to see singular - I

prefix for a straight chain hydrocarbon - N

orbital hybridization around a triple bond

switching circuit closed turns the lightbulb - ON

Perhaps it could be this instead:

Type of steak or a shirt - T

A charge or a mathematical symbol - + or t?

Same as the row directly above

JLA leader wears on his chest - S

2-D shape with infinite symmetry lines - O

Sound of exclamation or a question

capital of next letter rotated pi/2 - U

symbol of the set I'm from - this could be C as in i is from C which makes the one above U

what you use to see singular - I

prefix for a straight chain hydrocarbon - N

orbital hybridization around a triple bond

switching circuit closed turns the lightbulb - ON

There is no spoon.

oh! I think you have it. Because

the answer isn't read across, then down. It is alternating. No wonder I was having problems fitting in my possible answers! (I mean, what is INSPON?)

Type of steak or a shirt - T

capital of next letter rotated pi/2 - H (oh, I get it. It's not dependent on another clue, it's a circular reference!)

A charge or a mathematical symbol - e

symbol of the set I'm from - R

Same as the row directly above - e

what you use to see singular - I

JLA leader wears on his chest - S

prefix for a straight chain hydrocarbon - N

2-D shape with infinite symmetry lines - O

orbital hybridization around a triple bond - sp

Sound of exclamation or a question - O

switching circuit closed turns the lightbulb - ON

.

Yeah, I was working on figuring out what all of the clues meant (and had gotten remarkably few of them :( ), and am weak, so I looked at a couple of people's posts for hints on the thought process. I had gotten a couple, but not nearly enough to solve it.

Sorry if I cheated ;)

Nice job, flinchum, for pulling it apart. And Someguy for putting it back together! This may have set a speed record for solving one ot Y-san's notoriously befuddling puzzles.

And Someguy, it's not cheating, it's just a group effort!

Just getting ready to post the whole answer and you guys have beat me to it. That's what I get for trying to get my work done first. A Y-san riddle should always be highest priority, I suppose.

/flex? :) Alright, I'm going to go back to lurking and reading your mafia games. Those look hella fun.

Yep...the second hint was referring the the fact that after you get the two answer "vectors" (one for across, one for down), you have to take their "dot product"...hey, it's my special ability, after all ;P

Yep, good job to all, especially flinchum for finding the twist so quickly! And CL, reading the "notoriously befuddling" puts a huge smile on my face :D.

I guessed that was the answer as soon as I read the problem... I had little clue of how to get there though.

It's not the destination, it's the journey ;P.
