0 Guest
each says, "im between a liar & a true teller." which means: x=liar 0=trueteller xooxxooxxooxxoo and so on until 2000.. 1000=true tellers 1000=liars 2 true tellers are mistaken...?? that part-i dont understand. lols

OK? "Two truth teller are mistaken" means that they are not true when saying "I'm between a liar and true teller" they may be lying or mistake, these are the same. 0 Guest
your xooxooxoo was the true arrangement. you need only a division operation. come on Edited October 22, 2008 by nobody
0 Guest
Ok, so the LTTLTTLTT arrangement looks good. The problem is that they are arranged in a circle of 2000, and 2000%3=2. That's where the two mistaken truthtellers part needs to come in. We'll number the people 1 to 2000, but remember that person 1 touches person 2000. 1. L 2. T 3. T 4. L 5. T 6. T ... 1996. L 1997. T 1998. T Now we just need to make 2 mistaken truthtellers: 1999. T 2000. T All the L's are between two T's, and are thus all lying (like we want). T in 1998 is not between L and T, so he is mistaken. T in 1999 is not between L and T, so he is mistaken. All the other Ts are between L and T, so they are telling the truth So the total number of T's is 1998*(2/3)+2=1334 L's is 1998*(1/3)=
0 Guest
Using the LTTLTTLTTL pattern, where 2/3 * 2000 + 2 = 1335 Truth tellers & 665 liars. (and because their actual people took the liberty of rounding down) Edited October 22, 2008 by KeithK
0 Guest
Chuck is correct. I really didn't understand why Keith found it 1335? Was that an error or was it intentional???

0 Guest
The normal arrangement were all Truthtellers are correct would be: L T T L L T T L L T T... This should mean that there would be 1000 truthtellers and 1000 liars right? now we need to change 2 of the Ts to Ls so the order should now be: L T T L L...L L T T T T L L... L L T T L since we've replaced 2 of the Ls with Ts, shouldnt the number of truthtellers now be = 1002 and the Liars = 998? <_< Take this: TLLT Here the first liar (L) says "I'm between a liar and a truth teller" This is a true argument, but a liar shouldn't do this. The true answer was given above. But before, I advice you to think a bit more, it's quite simple.

However, the two mistaken truth-tellers need not be inserted into the same periodic group. I.e., it could be LTTT LTTT LTT LTT LTT... where each mistaken truth-teller is marked in red. That said, I have a problem with "mistaken truth-teller" concept. Ignorance is no excuse for making false statements. I do not accept them as truth-tellers. They must be an alltogether different tribe of Ignorant Knights. And then there must be a tribe of Ignorant Knaves. That may lead to a host of new and original problems. 0 Faizaan
i know this solution is not really a solution but the point im about to make might mean something. what if the two mistaken truth tellers are mistaken in relation to who is on which side of them. so in that case... the two truth tellers think that there is a liar two his left and a truth teller to his right.so he says there is a liar to my left and a truth teller to my rite. but he is wrong about their placement. am i getting at something?
