Guest
Lets say Al can smoke 5 cigarrettes an hour. Out of those 5, he can make another cigarrette and smoke that one within the hour. So, how much cigarretts can Al smoke in 5 hours?
0 andromeda
Well... 21 I think and I'm not sure if those 4 cigarettes that he makes count inside those 21...
0 bonanova
21 with 1 left over

0 Guest
Yeah, I think its 30 too. Every hour he combined 5 cig into 1 big cig. so that's 6per hour. Well, 6 x 5 is 30...
0 Nikyma
If he can smokes five an hour, then it would be twenty-five. He could make 5 more out of the remnants, but five is still his limit.
0 Izzy
If he can smokes five an hour, then it would be twenty-five. He could make 5 more out of the remnants, but five is still his limit. In the OP it states that he can smoke 5 in an hour, make another cig. out of the remnants, AND SMOKE THAT ONE WITHIN THE HOUR. That makes it 6. 6 * 5 = 30. Andromeda, Bonanova, how did you two come up with 21?
0 Guest
you are getting close but it isn't 30 either.
0 Guest
its 31... the 5 he can smoke each hour... so in 5 hours he can smoke 25. plus the 5 extra that he can make. PLUS the 1 he can make from the 5 extra.

0 dms172
I'm going to say 125 cuz if he combine's 25 intro 5 he can smoke thoughs in one hour so over 5 hours that would be 125. edit: nvm Edited October 11, 2008 by dms172

0 Guest
It's not 31. Total smoked Hour 1: smokes first 5, only THEN is 1 left over............5 Hour 2: smokes 5 plus one from last time....................6 Hour 3: smokes 5 plus one from last time....................6 Hour 4: smokes 5 plus one from last time....................6 Hour 5: smokes 5 plus one from last time....................6 =
0 Guest
I've heard similar ones to this before and I've come to the conclusion that 30 is the correct answer. Here is my reasoning... Hour 1: 5 Cigarettes Smoked--5 Butts Collected to Make 1 Cigarette--1 Butt Left Over Hour 2: 5 Cigarettes Smoked--5 Butts Collected to Make 1 Cigarette--1 Butt Left Over Hour 3: 5 Cigarettes Smoked--5 Butts Collected to Make 1 Cigarette--1 Butt Left Over Hour 4: 5 Cigarettes Smoked--5 Butts Collected to Make 1 Cigarette--1 Butt Left Over Hour 5: 5 Cigarettes Smoked--5 Butts Collected to Make 1 Cigarette--1 Butt Left Over After the 5th Hour, he has 5 butts, enough to make 1 more cigarette. However, in the OP, it says he has enough time to smoke the 1 'scrapped' cigarette (combination of the 5 butts) that hour. So we are assuming he can only smoke a total of 6 per hour. Had it said he could smoke any cigarettes he rolls during that hour in the allotted time, it would be 31.
0 Guest
Al is stupid for smoking Does it say that five is his LIMIT? Because all it says is that he CAN smoke five in an hour. I CAN drink five glasses of water in an hour. I CAN also drink seven.... See where I'm going with this?
0 Guest
The answer is 1 or 5. If he makes 1 cigarette out of the five, he only smokes 1. If he does not make one out of the 5 cigarettes then he smokes 5. Either way he is out of cigs.
0 Guest
its 31... the 5 he can smoke each hour... so in 5 hours he can smoke 25. plus the 5 extra that he can make. PLUS the 1 he can make from the 5 extra. Excellent! Finally someone gets it
