I noticed that each line has a pair of the same words. The first line has two "I"s, the second has two "you"s, the third has two "go"s, and the fourth has two "am"s. Is it a coincidence or is this the catch?

No...lol, just a coincidence...someone already got the catch...check post #47...

AMIGO

If I were in boxes, I couldn't be contained. =====> IGO (Ego)

You have me, and I am like you. =====> MI (ME)

I go up as you go towards grade F. =====> EGO Boost

What am am I? =====> Can be read as "What AM am I?" , the word starts with AM

Very creative answer! But you're forgetting the catch...check post #47...

If I were in boxes, I couldn't be(delete contained).

You have me,(deleted and) I am like you.

I go (deleted up) as you go towards grade F.

What am (deleted am) I?

All that could be "shadow" (Maybe line 3 means somthing with night), but I think I got the the catch.

An extra "pronoun" or simply an extra word? Because in the last line there is only one pronoun.

well....considering i made a post saying

that there is an extra word BEFORE her post about it being an extra pronoun, and she said that post #47 was right not mine...i would only have to assume because of that she really meant pronoun even though the last line has no extra pronoun and the way i constructed the riddle made no sense

so ill just check back for the answer and explanation later... <_<

If I were in boxes, I could be contained.

You have me, and I like you.

Go up as you go towards grade F.

What am I?

I took out 1 word per line, but not it makes less sense. Ack!

Interesting idea, but I'm not sure that you could remove the n't from the contraction couldn't.

Earlier, someone removed contained from the first line, giving you:

If I were in boxes, I couldn't be.

If you take "be" to mean exist, then it sounds a bit like Schroedinger's cat, which seems to be a favorite subject for Y-s. How that could relate to the rest of the puzzle, I'm not sure.

OP:

If I were in boxes, I couldn't be contained.

You have me, and I am like you.

I go up as you go towards grade F.

What am am I?

From post 35:

Do you horse really think my English skills are that bad?

Or could it be that, perhaps, that I am trying pizza to leave you clues to what the catch is?

Think about it tear?

From post 47:

Do we need to ignore 1 pronoun from each sentance?

Yes, there is an extra one in each line cat! ;P

So, based on that information, I started creating all the possible modifications of each sentence. I thought about only adding the ones that make sense, but here's the whole list:

If I were in boxes, I couldn't be contained. (original)

If I were in boxes, I be contained. (could be)

If I were in boxes, I couldn't be. (could be)

If I were in, I couldn't be contained. (could be, but doesn't make much sense)

If I were boxes, I couldn't be contained. (could be, but doubtful)

If I were in boxes, I couldn't contained. (nonsense)

I were in boxes, I couldn't be contained. (nonsense)

If were in boxes, I couldn't be contained. (nonsense)

If I in boxes, I couldn't be contained. (nonsense)

If I were in boxes, couldn't be contained. (nonsense)

---

You have me, and I am like you. (original)

You have me, and I like you. (could be)

You have me, and I am you. (could be)

You have me, I am like you. (could be)

have me, and I am like you. (nonsense)

You me, and I am like you. (nonsense)

You have, and I am like you. (nonsense)

You have me, and am like you. (nonsense)

You have me, and I am like. (nonsense)

---

I go up as you go towards grade F. (original)

go up as you go towards grade F.

I go up as you go towards F.

I go up as you go towards grade

I go up as you go grade F.

I go as you go towards grade F.

I go up as you towards grade F. (nonsense)

I go up you go towards grade F. (nonsense)

I go up as go towards grade F. (nonsense)

I up as you go towards grade F. (nonsense)

---

What am am I? (original)

What am I?

am am I? (nonsense)

What am am? (nonsense)

---

And from that, I put the most reasonable statements together and I'm still having a hard time solving the problem. I don't think the word(s) to be omitted are necessarily to be a pronoun. Any word seems applicable.

I think it could be a dog or a pet.

If that's not it, I hope this information will help someone get the right answer at least!

Cheers <_<

Good thinking...but keep in mind a lot of my stuff has a math/science tint to it, so the possibilities that may not make sense to you at first glance, may actually be the correct ones...;P

I think that "If" stands for intermediate frequencies.

Lower if's are used in AM radio, higher if's are used in fm and even higher if's are used in television receivers.

Getting closer...but remember, you need to remove a noun from all lines except the last one...

If I were in, I couldn't be contained.

Have me, and I am like you.

I go up as you go towards F.

What am I?

Fever.

You are *so* close...just line 2 is wrong...and line 2 gives away the answer...;P
