Question

a bit of a remix of LIS' riddle:

I am big or little

Apart or a part

I can be two or more

Chosen when you start

Only now, the digit tells me

But words can as well

Sometimes, I'm the law

But never a long spot to dwell

Incidentally, can you yet tell?

No?, then I'll continue to guide

Jordan used me to move worldwide

Meyer's part was full of me

Clavell mentioned me often

And I'm something you can see

I don't have any confidence in this but: Anachronisms, meaning something that has been placed outside of its timeperiod. It's common in books and movies where something is shown or talked about that hasn't been used/said in years or hasn't yet been created.

I am big or little (obvious or unnoticeable)

Apart or a part (whether integrated into the normality of the scene)

I can be two or more (things out of place)

Chosen when you start (to look for such things)

Only now, the digit tells me (the time period)

But words can as well (words and phrases that are out of style or ahead of their time)

Sometimes, I'm the law (that something could not have existed at that time)

But never a long spot to dwell (but might be discovered or brought back soon, like a fad)

Incidentally, can you yet tell?

No?, then I'll continue to guide

Jordan used me to move worldwide (?)

Meyer's part was full of me (Austin Powers tech)

Clavell mentioned me often (Shogun)

And I'm something you can see

and maybe "wott" olde english for "what"?

very creative and well thought out, but yeah, it doesn't quite fit.

I'll add some more lines to stir things up a bit:

I'm half of a certain ride

Usually annoying when alone

And if I'm lonely in the dialog

You might hang up the phone

Magic or more specifically Spell . :D

I know Mike Meyers provided the beloved Shrek's voice , so it could be a spell. ;)

Shrek was indeed magical, but not where I was going. I think it may soon be time to put this one to rest. I'll post the answer tomorrow unless anyone protests. Here's the last hint I can think of:

the answer is a very short word.

Ok, I'll add my guess

See-saw, so I would go with "sea", but I can't make it fit all the lines

Here's my thought....

a wheel?

I am big or little (wheels can be big or little)

Apart or a part (wheels can be apart or a part of something)

I can be two or more (bicycles, cars, trucks, etc)

Chosen when you start (grab the wheel)

Only now, the digit tells me (digit wheel)

But words can as well (word wheel)

Sometimes, I'm the law (Wheel of Law, Buddhist)

But never a long spot to dwell (wheels tend to move)

Incidentally, can you yet tell?

No?, then I'll continue to guide

Jordan used me to move worldwide (Wheel of Time series)

Meyer's part was full of me (not sure of a Mike Myers character with wheels)

Clavell mentioned me often (never read Clavell...)

And I'm something you can see (you can see a wheel)

I'm half of a certain ride (bicycle)

Usually annoying when alone (unicycle?)

And if I'm lonely in the dialog (3rd wheel?)

You might hang up the phone

Oh yeahhh..

WOTT could refer to the Wheel of Time series

:)

This is true and one of the hints, but there are actually 2 more hints in the Topic alone! Great tries everyone, but here's the answer:

way

Wott am eye, that is a clue btw =) - and the WOT was meant to give you the proper Jordan for Wheel of Time

a bit of a remix of LIS' riddle: - this line is an ode to LIS's riddle that inspired this, but i had no idea 'bit' was the answer at the time... weird right?

I am big or little - in a big way, in a little way

Apart or a part - a ways apart, part ways, away, a way, fork in the road (road = way), one of many ways

I can be two or more - two-way, three-way, etc...

Chosen when you start - your way

Only now, the digit tells me - point the way

But words can as well - she told me the right way

Sometimes, I'm the law - the way of the land

But never a long spot to dwell - no one stops too long along the way

Incidentally, can you yet tell? - by the way, can you yet tell?

No?, then I'll continue to guide - No?, then I'll continue to lead the way

Jordan used me to move worldwide - in WOT, the Ways are used as a dimensional space to travel

Meyer's part was full of me - Mike played Wayne in Wayne's World and often said: "No Way!" "Way!"

Clavell mentioned me often - Bushido: the way of the samurai

And I'm something you can see - now you see the way I wrote this one ;)

Extra lines:

I'm half of a certain ride - ride the subway

Usually annoying when alone - like a one-way street, or a stubborn person's only way to do something

And if I'm lonely in the dialog - the last 2 lines (and even the line above) refer to a one way conversation

You might hang up the phone

Ugh. I am very disappointed in this puzzle. There were a lot of people with very creative guesses that put 1000 times more thought into the solution than was offered. You are right, "WAY" fits but it's just stupid. You have done so much better work than to let this thing drag out for so long. Not meaning to offend but you really wasted my time.

oh please.... I'd say more but I'd rather you just didn't read my topics from now on or at least refrained from posting on them. kthxbi
