I can't understand the colour, but I think the next number might be 20

All prime numbers are squared, all even numbers doubled, all multiples of three, multiply by three (overriding multiples of 2). 10 is a multiple of 2, and thus multiplied by two.

But if this pattern continues, then the multiples of five multiply by five, overriding all previous... making the next number 50...

But the number after that is 121, for all prime numbers are squared.

Am I on the right track?

I think the number should be 50. The general formula should be: a(n) = (n) x (biggest prime factor of n)

a(1) = 1 x 0 = 0 , as 1 is not a prime number

a(2) = 2 x 2 = 4,

a(3) = 3 x 3 = 9

a(4) = 4 x 2 = 8,

a(5) = 5 x 5 = 25

a(6) = 6 x 3 = 18, (2 prime factor here, 2 and 3, but 3 is bigger)

a(7) = 7 x 7 = 49

a(8) = 8 x 2 = 16,

a(9) = 9 x 3 = 27

and

a(10) = 10 x 5 = 50 (again, 2 prime factors here, 2 and 5, but 5 is bigger)

Am I on the right track? :huh:

I like Woon's explanation, it's so much simpler than "Prime numbers are squared", making it more likely to be the correct answer. <_<

I'm not sure if this is worthy of mention, but the colours seem to start out from primary to secondary to tertiary, with the exception of red... :unsure:

I believe that w00n is right about the a(n)=n * (highest prime factor of n), the problem is the question. It asks if we can SEE the next number which is 50 (highlight the text and you can see 50). So is the answer yes I can see 50(meaning I can prove its there), no I cannot see 50 because it is the same color as the background, or is the answer a(11)=11*11=121?

I didn't realize the 50 and 1 are same color as the background. That's why I answer up to a(10) only, I agreed with redsnuff that a(11) should be 121 and a(12) will back to 36 again and so on. If a(11) is the one we are going to answer, then we haven't find the complete answer as we should also find out what's the color it is.

all except 18 are either cubed numbers or squared numbers

4=2 squared

9=3 squared

8=2 cubed

25=5 squared

18=not sure think ive just over looked somthing im not sure

49=7 squared

16=4 squared

27=3 cubed

does this have anything to do with it and do the colours as well?

and when you highlight it theres a 50 is this a hidden answer or is it part of the question?

and do the number of letters in the colour mean anything e.g. green =5 ? :huh:
