0 kingofpain Posted June 14, 2008 Report Share Posted June 14, 2008 Again it's not a completed tounament and fixtures are to be played yet - Where is the mistake? Again, it doesn't matter. Unless there are more teams that are not shown in this table, the sum of number of games played by each team MUST BE even Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

0 Guest Posted June 16, 2008 Report Share Posted June 16, 2008 (edited) To have 4 points, and having 2 draws, Team B must have played 3 games, so the mistake could be in the points there, because not all the other teams can have played 3 and C played 2, if each team is only playing each other team once. So the mistake could be in the games played for C aswell. Nice riddle LIS. Really has me thinking. 0 Guest Posted June 17, 2008 Report Share Posted June 17, 2008 I think that the "For" and "Against" columns are wrong for C. If there are only four teams, there are a total of three wins and three ties between A and B. D has three losses since they have 0 points, meaning that C must have tied both games they played. As such, they should have the same number of goals for and against. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
0 Guest Posted June 17, 2008 Report Share Posted June 17, 2008 Not that much input, (3 attempts - inc 1 doubter of the topic) Nice riddle LIS. Not correct - sorry, maybe these are harder than I thought, it's really a logic problem.Try to work out the scores for each game, that os easier for me to check also Perhaps some are finding this sort of problem as needing too much attention, it can be noted and done on the bus ... anyway no rush! 0 grey cells Posted June 18, 2008 Report Share Posted June 18, 2008 (edited) A 3 2 0 1 3 5 B 3 1 0 2 5 3 4 C 2 0 1 1 6 8 1 D 3 0 3 0 8 0 PLAYED WON LOST DRAWN FOR AGAINST POINTS If D has played 3 matches and has 0 points then he must have lost all 3 . Now B has 2 drawn games , one against A and the other against C(D hasn't won or drawn any) STATEMENTS: 1. B has played 3 games(A[Drawn] C[Drawn] D[Won]). 2.A has played 3 games(B[Drawn] C[won] D[won]). 3.D has played 3 games(lost against A B C) 4.C has played 2 games(B[drawn] A[lost]) . C couldn't have lost to D as D has 0 points. So statements 3 and 4 do not tally. Great puzzle LIS and a fun one too. 0 Guest Posted June 18, 2008 Report Share Posted June 18, 2008 Other than the missing game against D, I can't find anything wrong with the data. As I figured it, the scores are something like the following: A v. B: 0-0 A v. C: 5-3 A v. D: [<=5]-0 For: [<=10] Against: 3 B v. A: 0-0 B v. C: 3-3 B v. D: 2-0 For: 5 Against: 3 C v. A: 3-5 C v. B: 3-3 For: 6 Against: 8 D v. A: 0-[6-x] D v. B: 0-2 D v. ?: [<x]-x For: [<x] Against: 8 Sorry if the formatting is a little weird: the brackets [] signify unknown values. Unless I've overlooked something obvious, I don't see a contradiction; it all seems to work out... Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
