Question

Ok say anyone can make a mistake, interestingly it's a puzzle to find it - easy.

Played Won Lost Drawn Goals for Goals Against Points

A 3 1 2 2
B 4 3 1 5 7
C 1 1 2
D 2 2 3 5 0
E 3 2 0 3 2 2[/codebox]

2 for a win

1 for a draw

Score sheet incomplete because all games are not played - but here it is so far

So what's wrong?

Played Won Lost Drawn Goals for Goals Against Points

A 3 0 1 2 2
B 4 3 0 1 5 7
C 1 1 2
D 2 0 2 0 3 5 0
E 3 1 2 0 3 2 2

I've filled some of the missing info in the table and it turns out the sum of the games won is 5 which is impossible since there have been 6 losses.

Each team would play each other team once so the number of matches goes further but it is NOT COMPLETE, but there is ONE ERROR (deliberate)

Doesn't matter that it is not complete. As long as these are the only teams playing, every time a game is played, The sum of the wins column MUST EQUAL the sum of the losses column.

Not allowing for draws???

So a sheet is being filled out and while doing so and before completing an error is spotted - can you spot it?

That team E have 2 points, 3 goals for and 2 against. This means they MUST have won at least one game and/or drawn game with a loss also being a possibility.

However it says in the table that team E have lost 2 games. This means that the mistake must be in either the games won/lost/drawn section, the goals for/against section or the points section. I think the mistake is in the games won/lost/drawn section, which means that with one win and one draw then the points and goals would still be correct.

Sorry all, ignore above post. Just realised that with a win and 2 losses the points are still correct for E.

Urgh, LIS, its hard. Heh.

For some reason this makes me think of Sudoku...

Okay, there are a bunch of blanks that aren't filled in here so lets start filling:

A must have 0 wins if A has 2 points and 2 draws.

D must have 0 wins and 0 draws if D has 0 points.

E must have 1 win if E has 2 points and no draws.

B must have 0 losses because B played 4 and has 3 wins and 1 draw.

B 4 3 0 1 5 7
C 1 1 2
D 2 0 2 0 3 5 0
E 3 1 2 0 3 2 2

Okay, there is already a problem because there are only 5 wins and 6 losses.

Are there more players?
there are more loses than wins. shouldn't the total number of wins equal the total number of loses?
So there is something wrong, yes between losses and wins, you can work out the scores or just put the answer LETTER+ERROR+COLOUMN, working out the scores of each game is the way to check!

A has 2 drawn matches , one against B and the other must be against C .

Now A , C and E have played 3 matches each and I guess this is not possible. ;)

Firs part right second part wrong - can you work out the scores - it helps

A had a draw against B. A had a draw against C. A lost 0-3 to E. B beat E 1-0. C beat E 1-0. This means that both of D's losses would have to be from B, which I don't think can happen. But that just relates to the differing number of wins and losses.

What confusing me is whether something is an actual mistake, or just a stat that hasn't been updated yet

Yout are correct - but you just need to nail the details, it is a mistake not lack of update

You can't have three drawn games?

(You can't have a differing number of wins/losses?)

- only if there is a mistake - which is declared - what is it? what are the scores? - for the xrtra kudos
