Eight. Anything more than that will be after that ("quarter" is after "quart" in the dictionary, thus "eight billion eighty" will be after "eight").

I was thinking along similar lines (but I think Eighteen hundred would be written as One thousand Eight hundred)

So my answer would be

eight billion eight hundred eighty eight thousand eighty hundred eighty five
