So you wind up going to math systems camp for junior rocket scientists on planet Mellowsphere. You are only prepared for a visit to Funkotron though and have no clue how Mellowspherians calculate. Luckily your camp buddy had a little cheat sheet. In Mellowspherian Math the following are true:

2+2=12

5-3=62

3x4=61

6/3=83

So, in Mellowspherian math, what is 1-3?

I got 18 as well.

I'll show the math I used...

5 - 3 = 62 --> Add the two digits and square their sum; then subtract (from the square) the result of the problem (as if it were an Earth-math problem, i.e., 5 - 3 = 2) ...

so (5 + 3)^2 – (5 - 3) = 8^2 - 2 = 64 – 2 = 62.

Similarly, (1 + 3)^2 – (1 – 3) = 4^2 – (-2) = 16 + 2 = 18.

Is that how you did it?

As for the others, briefly…

2+2=12 -->

(2 + 2)^2 – (2 + 2) = 4^2 – 4 = 16 – 4 = 12

3x4=61 -->

(3 + 4)^2 + (3 x 4) = 7^2 + 12 = 49 + 12 = 61

6/3=83 -->

(6 + 3) ^2 + (6/3) = 9^2 – 2 = 81 + 2 = 83
