What is better - eternal bliss or a simple bread? - Back to the Paradoxes What is better than eternal bliss? Nothing. But a slice of bread is better than nothing. So slice of bread is more than ete

Isn't this moreso a case of zero versus null? Null is preferable to X 0+1 is preferable to 0 ergo 0+1 is preferable to null Zero and one can be ranked because they have relative value. Null c

Yeah, that's along the lines of what I am saying. Bread is not better than nothing because nothing is null and things can't be compared to null.

it depends on how the word "nothing" is defined

if "nothing" is defined as an object/ a thing, this statement is correct

if "nothing" is defined as a pronoun, this statement is incorrect, because you cannot compare an object/ a thing with a pronoun

(it's the same as that you cannot compare the number 17 with the weather today)

Isnt this just the way u phrase the question. You do not state that simple bread is better then nothing, the right way to say it is simple bread is better then HAVING nothing.

Having nothing and nothing itself cannot be compared as they are used differently.
