Question

16 very expensive jewels(10 red ,3 green and 3 blue) were day and night under strict control by a robot which counts these jewels once every 15 seconds,the jewels were put on a table in a cross form as follows:

The 10 red jewels were in a straight line.(start position)..1,,2,,3,,4,,5,,6,,7,,8,,9,,10

From the jewel number (7) brunched the other 6 jewels,,3 green to the right and 3 blue to the left,to make a cross form.

The robot counts like this(it counts only ten jewels every time):

1-counts ten jewels in a straight line and gets back to ( start) position..i.e from number 1 to number 10.

2-( after 15 seconds),counts in staight line to the first junction ,turns to the right and continues counting to ten,then gets back to ( start) position.

3-(after 15 seconds),counts in a straight line to the first junction,turns left and continues counting to ten.

and so on.

if any change in the number of jewels ( more or less than ten) happened,the robot will give alarm and closses all the doors

( to reach any door you need at least 5 mintes ).

can anyone steal some of these jewels without letting the robot to notice any change?

If yes,,,Howmany jewels can you take home safely.

If the junction is allowed to be moved then at least 4 can be taken by moving the junctions up to position 9 with only one jewel to the right and left.

Clarification, for #2-3 is a turn required? If the junction is movable then the turn is conditional upon a junction existing. If they aren't checking also that a turn was made then you could take 6.

If the thief knew ahead of time how many and of what colors the jewels were, then simply replacing the jewels with equally shaped and colored fakes would allow the removal of all jewels.

Just be certain that the fakes are easily procured from several locations and not all are purchased at the same venue/time. Also, it helps to ensure that the fakes do not have any transfer of body oils and care is taken to ensure no stray hairs or skin flakes are left behind. Burning the clothes used could also help in making off with the loot. However, do fear the robot, for it only pretends to be a simple task oriented automaton and may have hidden subroutines that activate upon your presence rendering your thorough planning moot. Of course, I could be over analyzing the riddle.

However, I do agree with curr3nt.

My first thought was...

two people go in, one to steal 6 of the jewels and another to buy time. while the person stealing the jewels runs of the other stays behind and moves the jewels into the line the robot will count next. assuming the robot does not know the colors and cannot sense a person among it.

4 is the number of gems that can be removed safely.

Move the junction to position 9 and remove 2 green and 2 blue. The robot's instructions are to count until the junction, not to gem #7, with the junction at "red 9" the robot will count to 10 everytime!

yes 3 red jewels after the robot counts 10 red jewels take 3 red jewels positioned at 8th 9th and 10th jewels between 15 seconds and run out of door

this is the correct answer

Now, when robot starts the second check, it wont find a junction, so it will keep moving in a straight line after counting 10 gems...

since its neither less or more than 10 an alarm wont be raised...

also since the junction has not been found, the step will go into a never ending iteration...

now you can pick the remaining (red gems) and walk out easily :)

The turn is required.and the 2nd and 3rd counting pattern should be in a(L) form to both sides.

The junction is allowed to be moved.

moreover....4 times 15 seconds are ONE minute.

The robot is programmed to make these three moves..staight line,(L) shape right ,and(L) shape left.

And when you take all (red)gems,,,the alarm will raise immediately.

My argument was since robot has to find the junction to move right, and since it is not going to find one, it will go on moving in the straight line indefinitely (which also means infinite time). Since it has already counted 10 (and not 11 yet) hence alarm can't be raised. You can always pickup the counted gems and need not worry of the alarm until the next scan, which in this case is never going to be initiated.
