KNOCK - 0 eliminates O from the middle letter, and SCION - 0 does the same for the O in fourth position. That leaves BL-ND - 1 from BLOND, FR-ND - 1 from FROND and BL--D - 1 from BLOOD. If the N is right, then BL--D would be wrong from BLOND, leaving no letters for BLOOD, so the N must be wrong. SHOWN - 0 shows that WN is wrong, so FL--- - 2, meaning FL must be right. WOUND - 1, but ND is wrong and WO occupy space for FL, so only the U is left, leaving FLU--. FLU-- However, if FLOWN - 0, then BRU-- must be right. If D were correct, then BLON- would be wrong from BLOND - 1, but BLOWN - 1 needs one of BLO to be correct, so the D cannot be right. FLOWN - 0, means that -R--- - 1 from FROND - 1, leaving just the R. So the R must be right. If the R is right, then the L cannot be right in BLOND - 1 and with the OND already disproved, that leaves the B. BR--- But would the ND removed from WOUND - 1 and the BR taking WO's spot, that leaves --U-- - 1, so U must be third. BRU-- Edit: I think the logic sound based on what I was working with, but my data was a little dated by the time I finished it... With WOUND=1 and 1st 2 letters given as FL, U is the only other possibly correct letter left. So now guessing FLUTE: If the scores between FLUKE and FLUTE are different, then 4th is that of the word that got more, if they're the same, then 5th is E* since K/T made no difference. And if one of them scores 5, then clearly the E is still correct... * unless it was 3, in which case we only ruled out some letters...
