  1. Okay hm - one more...

    buttermilk?

Thanks PG. This one was driving me crazy. Great riddle HM :)

I had been working off the assumption of that first word then the middle word was indicated otherwise dont think I would have come up with that answer. And of course, best not to count ones chickens... *fingers crossed*

    That is it!
  2.

Solomons temple was first destroyed by the Babylonians? Thus ending the independence of the Israelites until restored by England in 1948.

Not sure if this is a "brain teaser", unless I am missing something.

  3. photograph?

Ha, another word that fits but was not what I was thinking.

Thanks JTZero for answering devinerebel's question.

I can't help but think of the shoemakers helpers, working while I am asleep. :D

  4. still - like a moonshine still, hence bar time - existence ---> be line - queue... left off a couple letters though

    :D

I see now. The mental gymnastics are interesting. No puns or POW type clues in this puzzle. These seem to have many equally good answers without opening that can of worms :)
  5. Yay for getting another one! ^_^

    showoff???

    :D

That does fit, but not what I was thinking. More bonus points .

    Setsquare?

    Sorry, that's not it.

    Breakage?

Taking 10 to post this

Nope. Don't get in trouble .
  6. Trying again...

    fishhook?

    handgrip?

    griphold?

You got it with your first response!

    Maybe....

B-plan? As in, Plan B? Wait, that's not a compound word.... is it because? maybe?

This one...not so much  You seem to be on the right track, though.

*Still unsolved, but bonus point for alternate answers to and Wilson for http://brainden.com/forum/index.php?/topic/11818-compound-fracture-2/page__view__findpost__p__229080 and http://brainden.com/forum/index.php?/topic/11818-compound-fracture-2/page__view__findpost__p__229099.

***Same here as above. The answer totally fits, but not what I was thinking. Bonus points for http://brainden.com/forum/index.php?/topic/11818-compound-fracture-2/page__view__findpost__p__228674.

  8. Handhold? or Handheld?

So many word fit so well. That's lots of bonus points. There is at least one more.

Oooh - like those Wilson, gotta be it.

    headdress?

100% correct on that one. B))
  9. dimwit?

    Nope.

I know it's not a compound word, but I can't help but try: incense burner?

I like your logic but, that's not it.

    daredevil?

    Yep, that's it.

    Uproar?

    Handbag?

    Sorry, Wilson, plainglazed already got

Not what I was thinking for #3 either.

Solid logic all around but I think that there are other answers that you will find to fit better. Your answers could be more bonus points.;)

    Hammock?

That does fit, but I don't think the answer is a compound word.
  10. Sol? (Earth's Sun)

I am one of many,(one of the stars in the galaxy) but my name is well-known

    (Sol or the Sun)

At one time or another, I can see every home (northern or southern hemisphere almost everyday.

I can inspire and give good direction (a sunrise or sunset is inspiring and shows east and west)

I'm not considered trivial or full of affection (very important for life but the sun is often described as harsh or unforgiving)

If you can get a handle on me you'll know where you're headed (used in orienting your position as well as figuring out north, south, east and west)

But shining a light on me will not help you get it (Any light that you can shine would be insignificant compared to sunlight)

I rise high above but am one of the pack (high noon, and just another "ordinary" star.)

The sisters are with me and I've got their back (The sisters are a constellation. he's got their back meaning that he shines during the day while they shine at night)

edit: I had good reason but I got scooped by the right answer.

  11. are you sure that's not supposed to be monkeyspoke? because this one is driving me apes***

    Yes I'm sure. :P

    impacts?

Nope. In case I didn't say so earlier, Hello again.

    fiddlesticks?

See, I knew one of the usual suspects would get it eventually!

    Freshman?

    That is, indeed, correct.
  12. are the compound words spelled the exact way of the two combined put together?

EX: could "treason" be an answer for the compound words "tree" and "son"

Good question. Yes, the compound words are spelled exactly like words that the clue provides. No puns or other wordplay type clues on this one.

Of course the words are usually not the same meanings that the compound word answer might imply.

Also, the words in the clue can correspond to words that, when put together, will make the answer but individually do not correspond to the exact words that answer implies.

For example: dadpensicker - could be dad/pen/sicker or pa/ink/iller = painkiller.

Hope that this is helpful. :)
