"Well, Smith," said Officer Jones, recently promoted to head of the Anystate Police Department, tells you. "we've got another case for you. A message from a new criminal group. They call themselves the Witty Mafia. They attempt to obscure their crimes using riddles and puzzles. Here's the latest one." CASE: Thirteen Amazonian artifacts had disappeared from the Natural History Museum. The small carved fish were worth a fortune, and could be hidden nearly anywhere. LOCATION: Evidence and leads from interrogations led the police to the public library, where the artifacts were being hidden. EVIDENCE AND INFORMATION: We know that the evidence is inside a book. The puzzles that was left for the police: Let this note be your reference, Your guide for where to look. You don't have to search the world for a book. You may feel heartbreak, Like you lost your first beau, Just remember that old cliche, And you'll know just where to go. You ponder for a while, then a smile slowly spreads across your face. This smile leads to a hearty laugh. "Elementary," you say. "This witty Mafia should be applauded. But they let it slip. The artifacts are hidden:" Where?

Nope. Good idea, but it's a little harder than that. It's not one of those riddles that makes you overthink and then the answer is simple.

You are detective Smith. Officer Jones, sheriff of Anytown, gives you your new case. "Mr. Whitecombe was found dead at his desk just yesterday", says the sheriff. "You're our best agent. We need your help." Case: The death of Mr. Ray Joseph Whitecombe Suspects: Mrs. Barbara Whitcombe, Ray's wife. Mr. Jason McCubbins, Ray's business partner. Mr. Harold Nichols, Ray's best friend. Information: All three suspects visited Mr. Whitcombe the day of his murder. All three provide the police with stories of explanation as to the reason for their visit. Evidence: Police found Mr. Whitcombe with his wrist watch still on his right arm, a torn up picture of his wife laying on the floor beside the trash can, and an ink pen in his right hand. On the desk, the police found a name plate, a telephone that was off the hook, and a personal calendar turned to the July 5th page with 7B91011 written on it. "A very interesting case" you say. "But Mr. Whitecombe knew who killed him. And now so do we." Who was it?

shivam: you should not post the answer with the riddle. This is a forum. It is more fun if the OP lets the other members ponder over different possibilities.

SOLVED1 by snelltaylor! The morning journey took 65 minutes, and the evening journey therefore took 52 minutes, and the train arrived 57 minutes after it should have left, that is, 3 minutes early.

Mr. Grumper grumbles about bad time-keeping trains like everybody else. On one particular morning he was justified, though. The train left on time for the one hour journey and it arrived 5 minutes late. However, Mr. Grumper's watch showed it to be 3 minutes early, so he adjusted his watch by putting it forward 3 minutes. His watch kept time during the day, and on the return journey in the evening the train started on time, according to his watch, and arrived on time, according to the station clock. If the train traveled 25 percent faster on the return journey than it did on the morning journey, was the station clock fast or slow, and by how much?

You have a stack of 23 cards. Each card has an image of a cross on one side, and an image of a circle on the other side. You know that 14 cards in the stack are laying with the cross up, and therefore 9 cards are with the circle up. But you don't know in which order the cards are. Moreover, you are in a completely dark room, so you can't see anything. How can you, without seeing anything, divide the stack of cards in two smaller stacks, in such a way that both stacks have the same number of cards with a cross up? This is not a trick question designed to waste your time. This is a real logic puzzle.

Please do not include the answer in the topic. When the OP does this, it's no fun for the members who want a chance to answer it.

    Canderous Ordo--Star Wars.

Back to the answer. Using the rule of the word "not", "This sentence does not not have a verb", because two negatives (not) equals a positive (does).
