besides, how many neighbours r there? Nope to the guess. There are 4 neighbors, but the riddle is a What/Who Am I (WAI). Getting all the neighbors is a bonus.

One of my neighbors is greyish white, He doesn't fear the air as some might. My other neighbor is slippery allright, But still gets to hang with us toughies by birthright. My neighbor above is much like my little brother, Except he knows how to make rain like no other. My neighbor below is harder to meet than any other, That's why most people usually don't bother. P.S.

Kudos superprismatic : you managed to find perhaps the optimal strategy, where I would have expected search algorithms would have failed.
