And if you pick a range like Appalachians, they used to be much taller and jagged - "wild," but now they're not as high... but still high by many standards, and thus the last line. With the new verses, I'll guess "forests." Forests used to be scary, then we deforested, and we miss them. They don't change much? They're not as high as before, but still high.
