Question

Two friends are running a race together. They both have different endurances so they decide to run separately so they can finish as soon as they can. The first friend is going to run at intervals of running 6 miles an hour for seven minutes and walking 3 miles an hour for nine minutes. The second friend has better endurance and can run at 11 kilometers an hour for eight minutes and will walk at 4 kilometers an hour for six minute intervals.

A) If the race is 3 myriameters long who will cross the finish line first?

B) How long does it take each of them?

First one gets to the end of his 30k race in 53.333 min. and the second one gets there in 38.1818 min. Unless I'm missing something.

I missed a key conversion myself, I think. I knew better than to try math so soon after the "accident" ;)

I had the answer, but evidently I timed out.

Anyway the first runner finishes in 94 minutes and change

The second runner finishes in 89 minutes and 43 seconds.

doah, I thought is was only 1 myriameter. Still First one finishes around 285 minutes and seconds is 269

minutes and 9 seconds

I got

[spoiler='Results

']It will take the first person a little more than 243 min to finish the race, however, the second person will finish first with a little less than 241 min.

I hope that my math is right. Rechecking now.

EDIT: Nvm, Found an error.

Professor Templeton got the correct answer. I redid my work on a spreadsheet and came up with this. 257 for the first runner and 224 for the second runner.

Yea, I got the same thing once I fixed the error.
