Sorry Guyver. I thought this one was error free. I'm still learning the trade. Should be H _ C N O . . .

Ha! I think I get the picture now!

I had the same thing as Guyver for # six, thinking it was a non-metal from the periodic table, which would make it “B”oron. I think I see your mistake, if I’m correct that is. Perhaps you read it as an “R.” Cause I believe R is the answer to 6. R as in “rare” for . . . Rare, Medium, Well Done (prefer).

Shakee gets six!

you hit it on the head : ). I’m so embarrassed, as I even suspected something was a bit funky. The link I used had bad graphics and the B looked exactly like an R. I didn’t recall R (radium? radon?) as belonging there but I didn’t double check. Shame on me and apologies to all.

#2 is elementary, #1 is geographic, though the "coastal" clue should have led you there.

Darn me and my country's lack of American Football :P

Are the remaining ones country specific?

Actually Guyver, the remaining two are country specific, sorry to say.

This is complete guess but since you said geographic I'm going to go with:

E S H M B

Eastside, Soho, Harlem, Midtown, Battery Park

Way off I know but maybe it'll spark an idea with someone else

For #2: By elementary do you mean something childish? Like a playground song maybe?

So just ignore my last reply, I now have #1...

E S H M O

The Great Lakes:

Erie, Superior, Huron, Michigan, Ontario

More commonly anagrammed into HOMES, but Ahab successfully confused us by putting it in a different order.

So one left and so far we have TROSY

I'm pretty positive as to the letter for #2, I just don't know why...

Okay I was really lost on that one... guess It'll be the same on the next...

Could elementary be referring to schools?

"committed" and "elementary" as clues. Together, I think memorization? Some sort of mnemonic device that one would use in grade school?
