Question

I hope you're not tired of these. It's time to try six letters!

With apologies to Prof. Templeton for the plagierism:

I've put together a list of 26 common six letter words (except for X maybe, but I'm sure you'll get it), one for each letter of the alphabet. The letters in each word are not repeated and there are no plural words (no "books" for example) or any words that are six letters only by virtue of adding an s at the end. The list below shows you which letters every word shares with the other 25 words. The six-letter word that starts with A shares 2 letters in common with the six-letter word that starts with B, 3 letters with the word that starts with C, and 2 with the D word. Your job is to find out what the words are.

OK, I said I wasn't going to post one of these, because I'm prone to errors and typos. But I changed my mind, because I wanted to have a go at it. Ive checked and double-checked, but each time I found errors, so I can't guarantee I found them all. So please speak up if you see a problem.

I'm new to this type of puzzle, and I'm not sure the best way to start, but I have some ideas

C/V = Covert/Vector

Then

B/S could be Bustle/Subtle

or Bluest/Sublet

yes,

six-letter pairs is generally the best way to start.

and there's my first oops!

any ambiguity in my puzzle, and here I've done it 2x on the same pair. Obviously I'll take any of those.

Looks like a pretty good start to me, you beat me to it.

I don't know if it's an "oops!" or not... I figured I just hadn't checked against the other words yet... and those were just possibilities. I'm guessing only one pair of them will work with the other letters, right?

Oh! You didn't realize the same thing I didn't realize at first. Check those words agains each other!

L/M could be Lament/Mental

but that doesn't help me solve the B/S pair...

Nevermind... I see what's up with the B/S pair.

going with the most zeros...

the only word I can think of is Kidnap

just to clear it up are they correct then? cos as long as the same lectters are in the word then it doesnt really matter, for the sake of the puzzle, which word it is, right? sorry if I'm being dim (a high chance after studyin all day :P)

yeah, that's what I meant by not realizing there was ambiguity in my puzzle. You can use either word for B and S (though the first pair was actually what I used).

Also, I made a mistake with Z and C. They share 2 letters (as you can see from Z/V). My apologies! (but at least I caught it before you all did...)

the corrected matrix:

could be yogurt, or yoghurt, depending which spelling is used. i dunno yet if yogurt will fit, just using it as an example

it can't be yoghurt, because that has seven letters

;)

but to answer your question, all the words use american spelling.

And I believe that

Theory

But if that's true, then

Qwerty

And I feel like that may be stretching it a bit.

EDIT: Nevermind.... it doesn't fit.

Sorry these are all separate posts, but I'm taking to long in between to edit the previous.

Anyway, now I think

Torque.

Makes a lot more sense with the 4 common letters with the Q

So then

Quartz.

good correction on "T" !

Is anyone else going to help out PA? He's on a roll with these....

I'm really surprised H isn't done yet. I think it is one of the easiest.

You should have enough info to get O as well.
