Heard on the news that a third of people in Britain support the war, though I dont think I've met anyone who does, and also heard (though i dont know if its true) that Obama is planning to send more troops in. Just wondered what everyone's opinion was, whether its more popular in different contries or not.

As a person from the UK, I will have to say that there was a point of no return which was passed years ago. I fully agree with the position that the Lib' Dem's (Britain’s third largest political party) took i.e. oppose the invasion until our troops actually attacked and then support them.

It would have been foolish and seen as such on the global scale if we pulled out a day after invading!

Any troop in active combat deserves to be supported by the people who sent them there whether the decision was good or bad.

To pull out of Iraq and Afghanistan now would not be beneficial to the people we went to help i.e. the natives of the respective countries.

I can understand some people agreeing with why we went to war in Iraq but I doubt that it numbers a third of the population. I would like to see how the question was asked and who was asked. If they asked me if I support our troops in Iraq then I would have to answer yes. If they asked if I agree with the reason for the invasion then I would put no.

Lies, damn lies and statistics.

I heard that while there were almost protests about Britain going to war in Iraq, there were actual protests in Canada for not going to war!

Is there a case for sending more troops in to train up the local police force and army to reclaim their country??? If so then I am all for sending more troops in.

Edit: Sorry, I have not voted as I support our troops for what they're doing but I do not think that they should have gone in the first place.

I think that it WAS necassary, but around now is when we are starting to cause more hram then good. I think we should probably just finish it and leave.

As for obama sending in MORE is a lie... he is taking them OUT... that was one of his big things...

Iraq is an absolute mess. The idea at the beginnning was madness (as everyone has basically seen at this stage), but seeing as America/Britain had commited to 'fixing' Iraq in 2003, to withdraw now wouldn't help the place at all, it would allow it to fall into complete anarchy. Sure the American/other forces there aren't exactly popular amongst the local population, but what else is to be expected? The Iraqi forces are nowhere near ready to handle the daily violence that is and has been ongoing there though, so for the forces that are in the country at the minute to pull out would be an absolute disgrace.

That country is ruined, in disarray, sufferring, due to misjudged Western intervention, and because this is due to that Western intervention, America, Britain etc. now have a responsibility to remain in the country and do what they can to stabilise the society there. Not leave it in the mess that it's in. And it is one hell of a mess. I would gladly take the economic crisis we're going through anyday over what the average Iraqi person deals with on a daily basis, and has had to deal with since 2003.

Like what we're hearing at the minute is that Governments of Britain/America believe that the Iraqi forces are ready to deal with and handle whatever they might come up against, and therefore it would be ok to start withdrawing troops. This is total propaganda and BS. Just so that our dear governments can save their skin and withdraw troops, not givinig a crap about your average Iraqi citizen, which I guess we shouldn't be so surprised about, as that's been the case since Day 1 in Iraq. Once again a more disadvangtaged country has to suffer due Western incompetence, and then get left to rot while those Western Governments then decide to run.

Ah it gets me so mad.

I agree - the problem is, there is nothing we can do to help. I'm normally an optimist, so believe me, that means a lot coming from me. The best thing we can do is withdraw sooner rather than later, and save American (and Iraqi maybe) lives, cuz there's no way that we, a bunch of foreigners, can fix their messed up problems (possibly made worse by us, which sucks but is unfortunate ). We try to be good-meaning but what's the point? They don't want us there, we don't want us there, nobody wants us there! It's time to concede and pack up our pride and our so-called responsibility to 'help' other nations and just get out of there, before more lives are lost and we spend more money trying to fix other nation's problems while our own country goes further in debt and the economy worsens (hopefully Obama will help us out of this bottomless chasm)

I don't mean to sound offensive but I would like to know why you say it was necessary. I know that I haven't seen everything to do with this war so I would like to know what made it necessary. And just out of curiosity, could you tell me which country you're in?

I think we should withdraw immediately. It is not the rest of the world's job to fix another nation's problems. Invading for oil was one thing, but trying to fix their government and all that stuff isn't doing anyone good. Iraqis are noncomforming; they don't even want us there. No one should die because an ignorant nation can't figure things out for themselves. Yeah, some troops should be stationed over there to track terrorits, but not the majority of our army...

I agree with the idea of withdrawal asap. If we let iraqis sort out their own problems without trying to regulate it militarily then we'll have more of a chance to mend our relationship with Iraq in the future. Frustrating their own efforts based on our clear desire to secure our own interests in the region (and i am not talking about stability or security interests) will make things worse and the future iraqi generation will not ever consider US as an ally but more like a selfish exploiting bully...
