I am your typical broke college student...with a flair for fashion. Does anyone have any idea how to get clothes for cheap, or on how to cut up a shirt or w/e to make is new-er? Please and thank you!
Go to the nearest thrift shop. People give alot of good stuff to the salvation army and you can get it for very low prices. The money you spend will feed the poor. Make sure you sterilize everything before you wear it. ;) A somewhat better option is go to Kmart. :D

the thrift stores in my town are horrible! No "young people" donate so the only stuff there is horrible. Flower and dragonfly cut offs and huge coats with immovable shoulder pads are all there are. I also forgot to mention that I'm 6 feet tall, and it's all legs, [i'm an athlete, so they're unusually toned]so there are no pants in m size.

I've bought misc. pants from Goodwill and have used peices from one to add to the other. For instance; I bought a pair of dark khaki cargo pants and a pair of boy-size camo cargo pants. I removed the cargo pockets from both pair and sewed the camo ones onto to the khakis. The khakis weren't long enough so I cut about 8 inches out of the thigh portion of the camos and sewed them (inverted) onto the bottom of the khakis so that they flared at the bottom.

I also have patched together several pair of jeans of differing denim shades; have added patches of leather or vinyl; have tie-dyed jeans; have added grommets and laced them with leather straps; and have taken a razor blade or electric sander to them.

Get creative. Have fun!

True, learn to sew! Those old clothes are really quite good when you call them vintage! I have found dome gereat pieceas in off the wall places cause in LA all the stores are picked through

by the fashion students. Garage sales are great too. If you wanna get somethin for a few bucks you gotta put in the time!

Also, church rummage sales! My moms church runs one in Laguna Beach ca and I get great things!!

Oh, right I forgot about them and yes, great deals. I once had black, pure leather shoes for 10 bucks when I was brokeish. They pulled me through and I wore thick socks and kept clean.

I made a baseball cap into a beret by stapling a thick rubberband in the back of it. No it was Seagrams V.O. cap. I never throw away things that may be used to make other things. Listen to my honey-bunny Puzzlegirl. She has the best info so far, I believe.

CP is right...Garage Sales are great (but hurry, because garage sale season is coming to an end!) Sometimes you can find some great used clothing on eBay for cheap. Search specifically using the term "lot" to find a group of items (you will typically save money and shipping costs.) Does your town have any consignment stores? I love to buy and sell clothing on consignment.

Something else you can do to jazz up an old T-shirt (I've done it on Jeans too, but it didn't work out nearly as well) is purchase a pack of Iron-On transfers where you can create your own design (or nab one off the internet!) and iron it on to your clothing. HINT: make sure to click the Iron-on or mirror-image option on your printer!

Send me your pic for an iron-on. Cuz I got blank white t-shirts to show you off, my sweet.
