You may have heard this before but:

A philosphy teacher sets a question for an esay.

'You must write me an esay to explain the reasons why this chair doesn't exist' He pulls out the desk chair and sets it in front of the class. All the students worked for an hour or so on it except one. One student wrote for 30 seconds and got the highest mark out of them all. How did he do it?

And yes, I've also heard the answer as:

what chair?

When filling in University Application forms I was also told about the Philosophy applicant filled in the page long answer sheet to the question "Why do you wish to apply for this course?" with one word, and apparently got accepted.

I'm pretty sure all those stories - "this is courage," "hell is exothermic," etc. - are fictional urband legens. They make good stories, though, I guess.
