Question

Octopuppy's back off the wagon, with another bender of befuddling brainteasers. Each answer is a single word (one spelling) with 2 distinct meanings, both of which are given or strongly hinted at in the clue.

Example: "glue a broken branch"

stick

There's 10 lovely homonyms to amuse and confuse you. The 1st one answered gets 1 point, 2nd one 2 points, and so on, with 10 shiny new points for the clever sausage who gets the last one. Alternative answers get as many points as I feel like giving them (but unless there are 2 very distinct meanings they won't get nuffin'). Please use spoilers on the 1st page, then you needn't bother since all the answers will be on the leaderboard anyway.

Keyboards at the ready... HERE WE GO!

1) barely legal

2) container is able

3) cuts zigzags and fires too soon

4) false repose

5) fold a swan

6) get thinner and lighter

7) lots of money but only one suit

8) pulling hair out of shadow

9) removing an image

10) storage for cash tips

Oooh...

Pinks (thinking Pinking Shears, pretty sure that's what those zigzaggy scissors my mum had were called!)

Very good, I thought that would be the last to go. 7 points to DrRhythm!

Taper

These are great when they click, and that tends to be 30 seconds or so after I feel I've stopped thinking about them!

Nice work Octopuppy, thanks :)

Maybe you only start thinking when you think you've stopped...

Wow, that one's all done too! yngbld70 missed out on 1st place by just 5 mins, though how squishybot failed to get number 9 after having already posted the right answer in PH III is beyond me. Kudos to wakejon, and most of all to DrRhythm for a most impressive clean sweep, winning both PHs in one go. Thanks to everyone, it's been fun!

Octo can you explain a couple? how a bank is a tip, how a pink fires too soon and all of #6? They don't click for me :\

My understanding

10. tips as in tilts: "the airplane tipped its wings," "the airplane banked going into the turn"

6. a taper is on a cylinder, for instance, that is smaller on one end, i.e. "gets thinner." It is also a device used to light candles

3. "pink" refers to the sound an engine makes if the ignition is mistimed, and it "fires too soon," also known as knocking

Sure, you need to interpret "tips" and "banks" as a verb, meaning "tilts".

As for pinking, that's the sound a car engine makes when its pistons are firing early, as in "that engine pinks a bit". Admittedly it's a bit specialist, but I like to vary the difficulty level.

Number 6: to taper (verb) means to get narrower, and a taper (noun) is a kind of candle used as a lighter (eg. for gas lamps).
