0 Guest
Ok some hints as to how to approach the puzzle: There are several puzzles, each one will give you a piece of the overall puzzle. Each break starts a new small puzzle, which gives you a piece of the overall puzzle. There are 7 "part" puzzles. Each "_" is a blank that needs to be filled in. Once you've solved the little puzzles, look to the centers for the "big" puzzle.

0 Guest
Don't you DARE post the answer - I'm busy the next couple days but would like a shot at it Got it. BAGHDAD - They are 7 Sudoku puzzles, and the 7 centre numbers are 8,4,2,7,4,1,1. These numbers convert to H,D,B,G,D,A,A, which can be re-arranged to spell Baghdad. 0 Guest
Just do a search and replace on each of the puzzles replacing "_" with "." and go to http://www.sudoku-solutions.com/sudoku.php then solve the puzzle to get the center squares who are a scrambled version of BAGHDAD. There is absolutely no point in searching the puzzles on the web and claiming to know the right answer as this spoils it for other users of the forum. 0 Guest
Yes, I must agree with andreay. What is the point of "cheating" on this site? Most are here for love of puzzles and I spent a significant amount of time building that puzzle for the enjoyment of the forum group so that they could enjoy solving it, not so it could be "cracked" using internet tools. At least it's in a spoiler. If you like "cracking" things rcammoore, have a whack at this. The internet will help you some, but not all the way: Key: As you travel the Styx, count nine of ten The peso, dollar and the yuan All come to us from the same place With Ferdinand upon their face Code: 03100501 24052223 16052605 22202217 23200522 I'll also post this as a new puzzle. 0 Guest
in defense of rcammoore, posts 8 and 10 indicate that he solved the puzzle legitimately, and I give him kudos for that. It was WyaMahoney who suggested replacing our brains with google. Fie.

0 Guest
My mistake, I misread. Sorry Rcam. Hope you enjoy the new puzzle anyway. Yeah, I did it the old fashoined way. I suspected that they were sudokus right away, and then it took a while to do each one, and since the centre letters were mixed up into an anagram, you really had to do all of them to figure out the answer. Luckily I do a LOT of sudokus. so it only took a couple of minutes per puzzle, but that still works out to quite a bit of time. In defense of WyoMahoney, the real secret to this puzzle was identifying that they were sudoku puzzles and then figuring out that the centre letters formed an anagram of the answer (although the OP posted a hint that last part pretty straightforward). Actually solving the sudokus is pretty simple, so I'm not sure if automating that part of the task would be considered cheating in this case. Just to say I found the two statements conflicting, but do not draw any conclusion. My comment - calculators where not allowed into school exams at one stage and now are necessary equipment, It takes away the fun and reason for doing it. These are not tests - whoever is trying to solve has only themselves for competition so long as others are using spoilers. 0 itachi-san
Personally, I don't see any problem using reference material. This isn't a closed book test; it's a puzzle website. For example, if someone writes a lengthy riddle about the Bible, should I then not even bother trying to solve it since I will have to look up what and who the references are? I think not. I feel free to look up whatever I want. If the puzzle is original, like this one, then the internet isn't going to have the methodology or the answer so what's the worry? In this puzzle's case, I agree with rc, in that the whole challenge was figuring out that they are sudoku puzzles and that they contained an anagram of the answer. 0 Guest
oops dint see the next page,, hey guys even with arguments like this, please use spoilers,,, i mean the last few posts literally reveals the answer... yes, not solving the puzzle on thy own is wrong ,fine correct it, but is it a valid accusation? i mean i can solve sudokus in seconds too, i have a sudoku solver which i did as my project a couple of years ago thats not the point- dont accuse without valid reason to suspect, and dont post revealing stuff as in clues or answers without spoilers. this is just a request.. and dont intimidate people who answer by testing them, maybe sudoku was too easy an answer to him as he was solving them regularly as i do everyday from the news paper. i mean what are u trying to prove by posing another question? what is your point? 0 Guest
Luke, Welcome to the Forum. You are probably right that the solution to this post should have been kept in spoilers. As to your other thoughts: I have been participating on this forum much longer than many I see on here, and though that doesn't matter much, I think it does give me some insight into what this forum has been; and that is a place where people who like creating and solving puzzles come to work out their grey matter a little bit. Doing a Google search, imho, seems to contradict this purpose, and I was merely speaking to that assumption with my prior post. I didn't accuse anyone without reason. WyaMahoney posted a link to the fruit of his Internet search. I applaud RCam for solving the puzzle so quickly in a "traditional" manner and hope he had fun doing so. When you post this: "i mean what are u trying to prove by posing another question? what is your point?" it can be read as inflamatory. I assume you didn't mean it to be, as this is a "nice guy" community, even when points of view differ. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. I agree that I used too strong a word when I said "cheating;" however, my point was that I don't see the point in using "tools" to help solve these puzzles. But then I thought maybe WyaMahoney (who I misidentified as RCam) might really like using Google and such to solve things, so I created another puzzle where the Internet would help, but not give the solution. I never intended to intimidate anyone and don't see how my follow up can be seen as such. My follow up was a "raising of the bar" because the first was so easily solved by using Google. It had nothing to do with intimidation, and everything to do with providing another challenging puzzle - the very purpose for which this forum is run. 0 Guest
My reply just to say, spoilers seem to get missed in some general dialogue and others should take note, though it seems many people still look in them anyway. Also not a good idea to put in a solution with some answers so that others can figure out how it was solved. Still not keen on Internet use other than to 'CHECK' the accuracy of your solution where say history is concerned -I mix up greek/roman gods sometimes (but then I am older and thus forget more) I saw the 'additional' problem as just another problem to be solved- and the solution as a mssg for "whom the cap fits shall wear it". If people want to use the Internet and someone else's programs to solve that's their decision. - it's not a race, it is fun to be first, but it's also fun to solve an exercise the grey cells at the same time as WB said. Lets get on with having fun! Edited May 27, 2008 by Lost in space
0 Guest
Writersblock, yes you sure seem to be experienced quite a bit, and i have to agree with your points of view. i din't mean to inflame or post in any "angered" or "wronged" way. well it does seem so, but i simply found it a bit irritating, well i mightbe wrong with my point of view too. And yes as to cheating or whatever the issue might be,well am sorry if i had mis interpreted something. And yes i do see your point in giving the next puzzle, seems very interesting too and ah, heres a spoiler for it styx here does it refer to the styx band? then piece 9 of ten is it refering to the 9th member of the band ? < there are 6 members currently and 4 are former ones> and yeah i did google this bit well again my humble apologies in case i've wronged or hurt some one And i completely agree with lost in space,,, lets have some fun ppl
