Question

At a funeral, there are 3 mothers and 3 daughters. In front of the casket there are 6 roses. Each person takes home 1 rose each, yet only half of the roses are taken.

Why?

There is only 3 people attending the funeral, as such, only 3 roses are taken.

A child, her mother and the child's grandmother are at the funeral of the child's great-grandmother.

Great-grandmother (deceased) = Mother

Grandmother = mother also a daughter

Mother = mother also a daughter

child = daughter

3 mothers and 3 daughters.

Why?

#1. Every female is, by definition, a daughter of someone, so if we have 3 moms present at anyone's funeral, they would be 3 moms and 3 daughters.

#2. Could be a small funeral, if you count the deceased as one. Thus, great-grandmother is dead, and grandmother,mother,& daughter all attended.

There really are 6 women, all named rose. They all arrive on tandem bicycles, hence on the way home, they take each other home. Sadly, three of the Roses are pretty stinky and ugly, so they are not married, hence not "taken," so half are taken.
