Flat Tire

Question

A man driving home experiences a flat tire. With several miles still left to get to his house, he pulls to the side of the road. He uses his jack and lug wrench to remove the flat tire from the car. He takes the fully-inflated spare tire out of the trunk and puts the flat tire in the trunk. During this transition, the driver accidentally drops all five lug nuts down the storm drain. They are irretrievable and he does not have any spare lugnuts. He is able to securely mount the new tire and safely drive this car the rest of the way home. How does he do it?

Answer: The driver removes one lug nut from each of the other three wheels and uses those on the fourth wheel thereby securing the fourth wheel to the car for the rest of the drive home.

Congrats to infomaniac.nick for being the first to respond correctly.

This man isn't the driver of the vehicle with the flat. It just says that a man experiences a flat tire on his way home. It doesn't say it is his flat tire. So, the man can give a ride to the driver to get new lugnuts ;)

agreed

I view these questions a chance to come up with an anwser that still works but it's not what normal people would think of...

taking the lug nut off the spair tire mount of an SUV is what I thought of (owned a jeep)

but it's always good to see what other people think of...more then one way to skin a cat :)

so challenge yourself that's what The Den is all about
