Guest
Ann is 63, Bill is 28. Use equations: A+B=91 A=3(b-x) 2B=A-xThe ages of Ann and Bill now add up to 91. Ann is now three times as old as Bill was at the time when Ann was twice as old as Bill is now. How old are and and Bill now?
0 Guest
I think unreality posted a few of these problems before Bill's age + Ann's age = 91 let Bill = x so x + anns age = 91 As Ann is 3 times as old as Bill at the time when Ann was twice as old as Bill Ann is 3 (2x) x + 3(2x) =91 x+ 6x = 91 7x= 91 x = 13 - Bill's age now For Ann's age, 3 (2*13) = 78 yrs old Just to make sure 2*13 = 26 so Ann is 3x 26 which = 78 + 13 =
0 Guest
took me a while but it became easier once i realized i needed the following: third variable = years passed from the time the second part of the puzzle takes place

0 Guest
I think unreality posted a few of these problems before Bill's age + Ann's age = 91 let Bill = x so x + anns age = 91 As Ann is 3 times as old as Bill at the time when Ann was twice as old as Bill Ann is 3 (2x) x + 3(2x) =91 x+ 6x = 91 7x= 91 x = 13 - Bill's age now For Ann's age, 3 (2*13) = 78 yrs old Just to make sure 2*13 = 26 so Ann is 3x 26 which = 78 + 13 = 91 This is an old question, thus I think no spoiler is needed. Do I misunderstand the question? The answer above does not cover the question. :"The ages of Ann and Bill now add up to 91. Ann is now three times as old as Bill was at the time when Ann was twice as old as Bill is now. How old are and and Bill now?" If Bill is now 13 then it was (91-26)=65 years ago, that Ann was twice as old as Bill now. But that time Bill wasn't born. If don't misunderstand, solution must be that: Ann = 3*(Bill - (Ann - 2*Bill) 9*Bill = 4*Ann and since Ann+Bill=91 Ann=63 and Bill=28 To make sure: When Ann was twice as Bill now : 63- 28*2 = 7 years ago --> Bill was 28-7=21 and Ann is now 21*3=63 ??? Am I wrong? I may have missed something as English is not my native lang.
