Question

North of the walking trails, we are building a children's play-space. The play-space will take up a square space. In this play-space there will be a playground set (PGS for short). The center of the PGS is located in this square space with three paths from the medians and the median intersection running to it. From one corner of the square there is a 20 ft straight path going to the PGS. The diagonal opposite of that side also has a straight path but its distance is 17ft. The third straight path is 25ft and also comes in off a diagonal of the square. So clearly the bike trails at the medians do not go straight to these paths. The paths only become straight once in the square play-space. Now we must purchase safety flooring to protect the children from injury while in the play space. Assume that the PGS also requires specialty flooring underneath the structure (so its area doesn't take away from the play-spaces area) how much would we spend on this flooring, if the material and installation costs 7.50 a square foot?

Note: the distances given were distances from the corners of the square not the distances from the medians.

Not sure if I'm understanding the puzzle correctly, but the way I see it is there is a point inside the square with given distances to three corners of the square. Find the area of the square.

If that is the puzzle then the answer is

$4025.

The side of the square is approx. 23.1656 feet and the area is approx. 536.645 sq. feet.
