Guest
There are six ears of corn in a hollow stump. If a perfectly healthy squirrel carries only three ears out each day, how many days will it take to empty the stump?
0 Guest
As a healthy squirrel would have two ears attached to his furry head, he would carry two rodent ears + one ear of cereal corn each day from the stump. Given six ears of cereal corn in the stump it would take six days. Of course, if two of those ears were those of the healthy squirrel, that is, the squirrel being in the trunk when we are told there are six ears in the trunk, then it would take four days to carry out four ears of cereal corn.(If the ears in question exclude those of the healthy squirrel regarding the squirrel's carrying capacity, as well as all the ears in reference in the problem are cereal corn, then it would take two days.) 0 Guest
Since everyone has already pointed out the 'trick' to this riddle, I shall offer a different solution: If you do not include the ears of the squirrel, then it would take 1 day to remove all of the corn - not counting the day the squirrel decides to remove the corn. For example: It removes 3 ears of corn on Monday and then the next day removes 3 more (Tuesday). Therefore, only taking 1 day
