Question

hey guys need help solving this riddel!

ben and james are buying 10kg of fish @ $10/kg therefore the fisherman would get $100 yeah...

but they want the fish cut in half cos bed wants the heads and james wants the body so...

the head section is worth $3/kg and the body worth $7/kg so dad would pay 5kg x $3 = $15 and adam would pay 5kg x $7 = $35 so all up they pay $50 but where did the other $50 go?

The fisherman unwittingly gave them a 50% discount by having their prices total 10 per 2 kg when purchased as heads and bodies rather than as whole fish. The prices should have been 6/kg for heads and 14/kg for bodies.

This sounds very awkwardly worded. Is $3 going towards the head per kilogram of fish, and $7 going towards the body per kilogram of fish?

Or is it, for some reason, cheaper not to buy whole fishes, because adding up the cost for 1kg of head and 1 kg of body, $10 should actually get you 2 kg.

Also, are dad and Adam supposed to be Ben and James, respectively? If not, one could argue this is a different store altogether. That $50 was not dad and Adam's problem.

This is pretty straight forward (assuming the changing names are unintentional!)

If one pays 5Kg x $3 and one pays 5Kg x $7, then they've

bought half the available heads and bodies. To purchase the whole 10Kg between them, one should pay 10 x $3 and one should pay 10 x $7 = $100.

Nana beat me to it, fair and square.

if u add the both the head and body we get

we are taking 1KG each of head and body then

$3/KG*1+$7/KG*1= $10/2KG => $5/KG...

so your actually decreasing the price of meat from $10 to $5

hence for 10KG it will be

10*5=$50

the rate of the price of the fish changed. the fish should remain at $10/kg but because the fisherman changed the rate, but because the fisherman lowered the price of the fish per kg, then it was much cheaper.3 x5 = 15 and 7x5 = 35 but 35 +15 = 50, which is not 100, because 3x5 and 7x5 separately produce smaller prices than 10x5 because the amount per kg has changed.

its simple mathmatics 5kg x $3 ur loosing $7 per kg 5kg x $7 ur loosing $3 per kg thats why theres $50 gone but the fishermans mathmatics r done incorrectly they would still have to pay the $100 then figure out the worht by % not $

If one kg of head-section is worth $3 and one kg of body-section is worth $7, then 2 kg of fish would be priced at $10. Hence the average price would be $5/kg instead of $10/kg. Hence the loss of $50. The pricing should be amended as $6/kg of head-section and $14/kg of body-section so the average price would remain $10/kg
