an angry gatekeeper lives on the middle of a long bridge, and will not let anyone pass.

but the gatekeeper will nap for 20 mins before waking up to check whether there is anyone on the bridge.

if he sees u, u will be sent back where u came from. so the only chance u will get to cross is when his is asleep.

but the bridge is so long that it takes at least 20 mins to reach the middle of the bridge, thats the amount of time u have to cross the bridge before the gatekeeper wakes up.

so how do u cross the bridge?

If you turn at the midway point BEFORE he wakes up, the keeper thinks you are going in that direction. Thus he will tell you to turn around and go back, which is the direction you were going in the first place.

You walk almost half way across until seconds before he awakes, then you turn around and start walking back toward the way you just came. When he awakes and sees you walking toward the shore from which you just came, he will assume you walked just beyond the halfway point from the other shore and send you "Back" to that shore, which is where you wanted to go anyway.

I don't know if these answers are correct. Lets assume the gatekeeper knows he falls asleep for "exactly" 20 minutes and lives "exactly" in the middle of the bridge. He also knows that the bridge is long enough, for you to take 20 minutes to get to the middle of the bridge, so he "should" know that it doesn't matter where you come from you cannot cross the middle of the bridge without him knowing. So it doesn't matter where you're facing he'll know that if you're on the left side of the bridge that's where you came from and the same applies for the other side...

Just a thought, because I don't know the answer...

Walk to the middle of the bridge. Push the gatekeeper off the bridge. Continue walking to the other side.
