hmmm i have a idea im playing with so lets try and see if it works.

so the relation to maw to marlborough.... perhaps its a pun.maw sound sounds like marl to me so then if i play off that then i need something that sounds like borough which would be... burrow (def) a place of retreat/safe haven. and that would fit with your "dependable place" and "open up" comment. so a pun on marlborough to Maw Burrow?

i can't believe i didn't see one of the earlier clues before it would have helped me so much....

ok the answer is canals i think... i was looking at the clues within the thread when i saw the word cavernous (it's a collection of veins and you said it related to the answer.) thank god i took anatomy so i know what cavernous and canals are its the term for a space that connects body parts.... so that means its inside a fish as well. To your original riddle w/o the clues... a canal is a place and encompasses a large space, it needs to be opened up with locking systems, MAW/Stomach is also technically a canal.

ugh if i don't get it right this time i give up.
