  1. the only reason the 4th d (time) would be different in its restrictions is because the temporal direction is linked to causality - events earlier along the "time axis" cause events (that is, the state of space) at later points along the time axis.

Causality is an illusion. Let's say that A causes B in frontward time. If you were to move backward in time it would look like B caused A. I'm not saying that A & B are not linked but the causality thing is based on how we perceive time more than anything else.

Actually our perception of time is due to the fact that we have memory.

If we knew the future but forgot it as soon as it happened and we had no memory of the past then we would perceive time backwards like Benjamin Button, and causality would be flipped but otherwise life would be normal.

  2. frost

Some have seen me at my worst,

While others have yet to catch their first.(some places it never freezes)

Your mother hosts my evil ways,

And for this, every time, she pays.(mother nature?)

    I come and go steadily,

But most don't welcome me readily.(the seasons)

If its my path you seek to cross,

Join me up here, Where I am boss.(the north pole)

I'll work my way to your very core,

That is, if you forget to shut the door. (cold would fit here too)

My bite, some say, it is a killer,

So guard thyself, and I won't be a chiller.(frost bite)

(my first riddle, hope you like it)

edit-Oh just a little too slow! (and wrong)

  3. YES!!!! This is the answer. GOOD JOB!!! GRRR! I have no words left to think up a riddle for. It's getting tough. : ) I'm working on it, though.

That's OK. It's easier to solve them then it is to write them. I have been enjoying solving your riddles and others so much that I tried to make one up and it was solved on the first post :( . I appreciate a well thought out riddle. If done correctly an answer would not need to be confirmed because it would be so obvious. Now I feel a little bad for making wild guesses (I'm thinking "blanket" here.)

    Keep it up, lotus.

  4. I just wish to preface this riddle with this warning! I mean no offense, whatsoever by the words in this riddle. They are merely meant to covey a point. Also, this is NOT a WAI riddle, but a "what is the word which is alluded to in every line," riddle.

I traveled along and found a market, where

The most beautiful lady was standing there.

I paid a good price and bought her well.

Her skin was pale; she was a lovely belle.

We found a good driver, and paid his price,

All in all, I’d say the day was nice.

    fare (fair)

  5. root + e.g. + IOU

Rudy, a soldier (G.I.) from Oklahoma University

So why'd ya title the puzzle "Prince"?

    1. a female sheep (ewe)

    2. William of overture fame (Tell)

    3. follows do and re (me)

    :P

The name of the person has two parts. I took the root meanings. One part means "son of" and the other means "supreme ruler". The son of the supreme rule could be called a prince.

  6. Darn... I kept going with eg for the 2nd.....And you said no guessing! :D Good One!

    That was intentional

In ancient Rome (Latin) two letters were sampled (a two letter phrase).

That is (Literally "id est" or i.e.) what I meant to say, for example (in this case the example is that "that is" is an example of what i.e. could mean. Also, i.e. is the abbreviation for "ignoratio elenchi" which lierally means "ignorance of the issue" but is more colloquially used to signify a "red herring" or an intentional attempt to mislead. I know that many people, incorrectly, use i.e. in the place of e.g. and was trying to exploit this.

  7. I've been around for a very long time.

So the clues to this riddle are laid down in a rhyme.

When you've worked out the meanings these three verses

and said them aloud, without any curses,

The answer will plainly appear before you

of what is my name and what do I do?

Technically speaking, (if you can remember)

I could be the base of an unvarnished timber.

In ancient Rome two letters were sampled.

That is what I meant to say, for example.

This one, by Jove, is the hardest one yet.

What do you say when you are in debt?

So now that you have the clues to this song,

I will need your answer and don't take too long.

    I hope that you don't think I'm a snob,

but what is my name and what is my job?
