I shot a DEER which I put in the BARN

Shortdude, I'm not trying to criticize you or anything, but don't you think there are a little too much of the "Brian Dennis" style mysteries? I believe that including Jimmy Spring, there are four or five of them. Again, not criticizing you, but I just wanted to give an opinion.
-
Yes, it should have been better worded. I remember this from some riddles I read a long time ago. I coudnt remember how the author explained it, so i did my best.
-
Actually, brain storm, it is quite the opposite. As I said before, it is unlike Leslie Youngs, which ask you what to do step by step. I definitely should have made the point clearer, though.
-
Yes but read carefully what the man says At the beginning. His "favorite pub"
-
maybe I wasnt clear. Detective Smiths are not like Leslie Youngs, or Brian Dennis. Everything is in the story. Blankpage got it.

"RRRRIIIIIIINNGGG!!!", screeches the irritating phone in your small office. "RRRRIIIIIIINNGGG!!!" "Who is this?" "Yes, is the Officer Smith?" says a deep voice. "Yes, this is DETECTIVE Smith's office." you say irritably. Why don't they get that you're not a part of the force? "Well, I have some information on a kidnapping. That of my girlfriend." You sit up straight. "Well, what can you tell me?" "I'd rather we met in person" boomed the voice. Suspiciously, you ask: "Where?" A laugh. "You sound suspicious. How about Town Square?" "I live too far away." A pause. "Maybe down at my favorite pub, Morty's?" "OK, I'll see you there. How will I recognize you?" I'll recognize you. You're famous, Mr. Smith." He hangs up. You dial a number branded into your brain, almost without thinking. "Jones, I'll need a few officers down at Morty's. Bring Benson. I'll explain when I get there.' Down at Morty's, you meet up with Jones, Morris, Spalding, and Benson. "We'll see what this guy know." you say shortly. Ah, Morty's. The good old pub. You greet the good old patrons like Bonavona and WB, then sit waiting for the mysterious caller. For a while you wait, but soon you have to go to the bathroom. It's been a while since you came to Morty's, and you have to remember. "Down the hall behind the counter, take a left, and the Men's room is on the left...no, right." A few steps down the hall, right before that crucial left turn, the huge man in front of you stops for a moment. Since you're too busy thinking, you bump right into him. "Oh, goodness, sorry! I didn't see you there!" you say embarrassed. "I was just.. ah, Officer Smith! I told you I'd recognize you!" he says. "Ah, yes. Mr..." "Gils. Simon Gils." "Yes Mr. Gils. Now before you tell me your story, you need to excuse me a moment." You rush out the door. "Jones, I need a bug. This story could get interesting. I don't trust this guy." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

hey darth! Havent seen your posts in a while!

that was quick. the code was obvious, right ?

Well, here's my first try at a cryptogram. Can you find out the famous poet and his lyrics? To make things easier, I have a table with half of the alphabet. Solve the code, find the corresponding letters and solve this puzzle! Put the rest of the alphabet below these letters to find the corresponding letters. G M Z B F Q J V K W H X U Poem: IFJ H BZFLZQU ZOTWMHJZWZJ XVMBIU ZQRWMSPIB RHBI PMVJZQ FQJ UHVLZW VHPIB BIZ TVSZ FJQ BIZ JHO FJQ BIZ JFWY XVMBIU MA QHPIB FJQ VHPIB FJQ BIZ IFVA VHPIB H RMSVJ UGWZFJ BIZ XVMBIU SQJZW KMSW AZZB TSB H TZHQP GMMW IFLZ MQVK OK JWZFOU H IFLZ UGWZFJ OK JWZFOU SQJZW KMSW AZZB BWZFJ UMABVK TZXFSUZ KMS BWZFJ MQ OK JWZFOU RT KZFBU There is no punctuation in the cryptogram, but there is in the poem. Post what you think is right. There might be some spelling mistakes or I might have messed up on corresponding letters.

have i missed it or are we starting afresh?

It’s been a long day. Sitting in your “official” office in the Anycity Police Station, you’re about to nod off. Suddenly, a young rookie, what’s his name, Benson? Yes, Benson, bursts into your office. “Mr. Smith?” He asks incredulously. “Oh, what an honor! All the boys are talking about you, and I finally get to meet you!” He jumps to you and shakes your hand. You smile. It’s good to know that people admire you. “Anyway, Morris told me that Jones wants to give you this file.” A bigger smile. Yes one of Jones’ famous files. Exactly one hundred and fifty-six files had been given to you. “OK kid, let me have it.” He hands it to you. He starts to leave, obviously feeling that you need privacy. “Hey kid…Wanna come with me? I have to go check out a little circus act down in the city.” CASE: The murder of John Wilkerson III VICTIM: John Wilkerson III, jester performing in ‘Ye Olde Renaissance Faire’. Age 32, Australian descent. No known relatives. Stabbed in the back once, but fatally. MISSION: Go down to the fair and find out who killed this man. Down at the fair is the familiar yellow tape. The boy looks nervous, but you step right over it casually. The chief organizer runs to you. “Police? Good. I need you to help me out. Come with me to John's trailer.” As you are walking, you ask about the place, and the people there. “Well, there’s an authentic Renaissance Market. We modeled it after some records of them. There’s plenty of different activities, but the most famous is the joust.” “Joust?” “We hire out a few actors to fight our ‘King’s Knight’, our champion. It always brings in a great crowd. We also have the royal court with the King and Queen and all members of the court. The duke, duchess, count, countess, and everyone that belongs." “Who was on duty?” “Well, we were practicing the joust. It’s interesting. All the ‘competitors’ had something against Mr.Wilkerson.” You now make a list. You like lists. SUSPECTS: Red Knight-Had his girlfriend stolen by Mr. Wilkerson. Always enemies. Announcer- Wilkerson managed to get a pay raise that he just let out of his grasp. King- Was owed money Queen- Old friend, but he broke her heart. King’s Knight- Gambler who played games with Wilkerson, but the deceased almost killed him. Samurai Knight- Wilkerson kicked him as he walked in the door on his first day. You and your rookie reach the actor’s home, and take a look inside. Inside is a cluttered mess. You notice a coat on a wall and some bills on a sofa. There’s a coffee table with a chessboard on it. On the ground near it is a piece of paper. Benson retrieves it for you. It says “g1”. He has a kitchen table with some papers on it. You look at them. “He was an avid coin collector” you say “here are some new dollar coins.” There’s also a half-eaten sandwich with flies hovering over it and some lines from Shakespeare as a placemat. Romeo and Juliet. “He was an interesting man” says the organizer. “What do you think?” you ask Benson. “I don’t know, but I have a start.” "Good boy. I was wondering when you would figure it out."

That would be great. Let the new players play other new players so we dont die quite as quick Maybe some veterans could be like mentors, giving help when help is needed?

I believe we can make madias better. I think this mafia isn't Doing so well because of the numbers of newbies. My idea is to create some new topics 1. A mafia q&a. Hirk did a good job with that. Maybe there should be a whole topic. 2. Newbies mafia. A mafia for those who haven't played before. Helps us get the feel of mafia while not being vulnerable to those who know how to play. Just ideas. I'm a newbie too, and it is hard.

RECAP: After your amazing find that Wyatt Drew has been kidnapped, the Anycity Police Department gathers a search force. Jones tells you: "Take a break, Smith. Good job, but this part isn't your line of work." NOW: You look in your mailbox on a normal day. You look through the mail. A few bills, a letter from your aunt… what’s this? A strange note. You grin. From Roscoe, your underworld contact. You're most reliable source. To help you know Who kidnapped Drew You've seen them before And they've seen you What rhymes with orange In the center of all The single circle So that men don’t fall You make a quick phone call. Jones tells you: “Well, an anonymous tip has led us to three streets. We are positive that it’s one of them.” “Well, tell me about them.” “They are all identical, and seem to be built at the same time. It seems a private company bought them, and they were named quite interestingly. They are all dark alleyways, and so we think they have been named inconspicuously. They are Random Way, Nothing Way, and Every Way." "Thanks" you say shortly, "I need some time to think. Whatever you do, DON'T MAKE A MOVE. By the way,I believe we're dealing with the Witty Mafia again." "Refresh me." "Well, first was the thirteen fishes." "Ah, them. But I thought we put an end to them after the Scorpion incident." 'Apparently not. Bye." You sit a while, thinking about Roscoe's tip-off. Then you realize. Again, you call Jones. "Jones, I think I know where to find our missing man." --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Watch this topic, as I have an epilogue, but don't want to start a new topic.

You walk into the study of man Jones called Wyatt Drew. "Thanks, Smith." says Morris "I'm certain there's nothing here, but Jones insists on bringing you here. Here's the file." CASE: The disappearance of English Professor Wyatt Drew SUSPECTS: None "Hello, what's this?" you ask. "Ah, that's nothing, just the note that Mr. Drew wrote." says Morris. Dear friends and whoever it may concern, I am sorry to go, Annette; and Jenna too, but it is the only way. I have done some deeds in the past that have come back to haunt me I have committed some of the foulest sins mankind has ever seen, and now I am paying the price. Its too late for me, but I can still save you. Do not look for me. By the time you read this, I will be gone forever. Try to forget me, and you will see you will be happier. Goodbye forever, WD You quickly snap your head up to look at Morris. “You call this nothing!” you yell angrily. “This is everything!” You snap open you cell phone and hit the speed dial button. "Jones," you say bluntly. "Gather a search force. There's been a kidnapping." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Special Edition of Detective Smith. After this is solved, a Part 2 will come out. Stay tuned after that for an epilogue!
