Brandon, please chill. I read some if not all of your Mafias here on BD and I really don't like that kind of pretense mind-game. I mean maybe you're seeing new faces, but I don't see a new one when looking at you. Do you really wanna go back to never being trusted, ever again? I removed my vote from Slick to disperse pressure (at least until I know the answer to the tie-lynch rule). As I said in the question to LJ I think there are only 2 possibilities: - no lynch (which seems good to me since no one who was voted for actually said something of value) - random lynch (in which case I will break the tie with my current #1 suspicion of the three tied or leave it to chance as I'm not that paranoid to see any suspicious act/vote today). All killed in a tie is not an option. That's not unheard of, but it's so exotic and since it's the least likely possibility its most logical that LJ would have put it in the rules, don't you think? 2 hours to go and a lot of inactivity. We need activity, not votes. We got enough of random/no-reason votes.

LJ: Is tie on D1 random lynch or no lynch? Other note, Framm needs a replacement. Those on MM already know, so it needs to be publicly announced too.

I can't promise anything as it mostly depends on how hard the word is. Here goes missile 1: BOARD

@Maurice - Yeah, I think we're slowly starting to *not be* newbies. *shrug* Maybe I'm too excited about the other recent Mafia and our future co-hosting. I wasn't raising a point against you regarding that probing/question. Just warning Segul and firno to not to out too much information when asked. Activity is good. Sharing information is good. Outing too much information is not always good and should be chosen wisely. We all got a RID: Role is hidden ID is public Seriously, my first mafia I did not understand what RID stands for, there was no RID Kill role. Some of the previous mafias I had been reading up to that point did mention it but I didn't bother to go into detail. So the first time I saw in someone in one of the Mafias I was reading making a passing reference to RID Kills and since the guide was not explicit on what a RID Kill is (or maybe I wasn't reading it right) I had to dig up/read several other instances of already-played Mafia-games in order to understand what it comes from. I know, it looks silly, but there's actually small language barrier there.

@Segul & firno Off-topic: It's not a matter of forgiveness and it's probably best that you were upfront with it. I guess it's hard for both of you to start playing Mafia in the same game and cannot completely *not talk* about it in real life. It's something anyone of us can relate to. However, try to not spoil it by talking between yourselves. There are probably a lot of things not covered by the Guide that you're likely to discover gradually when actually playing a Mafia. My advice would be that each time you want to say something about Mafia rules to the other, re-check if it's something you know/thought of because of your role i.e. if it is "neutral". If this something is indeed neutral, then it does not hurt to say it in the forum instead of in real life. If it's not neutral, either find something neutral that implies that something or stay quiet so as to not hint to your role unnecessarily. Makes sense? Also, it would taint/ruin your first-time experience with Mafia. Reasoning like "because X knows what something is/does (E.g. RID), he knows it because of his role, etc." is not really necessary and can also lead you to wrong actions/a wrong path pretty quick. E.g. That's how you got red-flagged as suspiciously metagaming. So, just try to keep out of it guys, OK? On-topic: As a side note about maurice's question - maurice wanted to obtain an answer without actually pressuring you with a vote. And it worked. So, next time someone asks you something, unless you're voted by that person and need to defend/change his mind, don't answer that easily I'm not entirely altruistic here, but someone should warn you about this tactic. @Maurice - no offence meant, it's just that no long ago we were newbies too, remember So, I cannot let anyone take advantage of them with that tactic. More than once

OK, it's hard to push for one part of the puzzle and ignore the rest using the same logic, but I will try to clarify: 1) The fact that you're looking at a mysterious operation is forced in the OP (it's not hidden and it just restricts the puzzle to a very large field of possibilities) 2) The fact that the numbers represent in the decimal system the number of "beeps" is also given (from my previous response). It just a matter of easy communication (among us, humans) of how many beeps were received. So when the OP says (x, y, z) it does imply that x beeps then y beeps then z beeps were received. 3) The fact that the operation actually considers these numbers / looks at them in a decimal number system is neither given nor contradicted by the OP. Another way to look at it is this: Imagine the same race as in Mystery Operation 1. They use base 3. If they would want to transmit number 4, the easiest/unambiguous way would be to transmit 4 beeps (which does not depend on the particular numbering system any receiving race might have). If they transmit "beep space beep" (11), then 11=4 only for races that use 3 as a numbering system. So, it seems that the inherently unambiguous way to transmit a number is to just transmit the same number of beeps. Of course, any receiving race would write it down in their own numbering system, but no receiving race should (Occam's Razor) assume that the transmitting race transmitted digits in their own numbering system. Think of it as a sort of "Assume it's numbers not digits, as digits may lead to ambiguity" golden rule of interspecies communication, ok?

I can't really stop you think at anything. All the OP says is the message we received. The rest is, as the title suggests, a mystery. As I said, the decimal numbering system is there to transmit a message between humans - you would not want the OP to say: "beep beep beep beep pause beep beep pause beep beep beep beep beep." It's simply simpler for humans to convey the information (4,2,5) in a decimal way e.g "4 beeps pause 2 beeps pause 5 beeps big pause ... makes us think there's a relationship between those beeps before the big pause."

Random vote at the moment. At least until I get some answers. Sage Joch: LJ 1. Molly - Voting for Onetruth 2. maurice 3. Framm - Voting for Maurice 4. Segul 5. araver - Voting for Slick 6. Hirkala -- Zombified 7. onetruth 8. NickFleming 9. woon 10. slick 11. Brandonb 12. firno Recap on Night 1 events: - Geshtar targeted Molly for the kill. - Molly was saved by Army Boy #1 (having Krissie’s ability the other one being a redirect on odd nights could not have saved Molly. And from the Signup thread responses from LJ we know that only save stops the night-kill). - Sheex copied Framm’s abilility (which means Sheex can use it tonight/today, right?) - Thanatos zombyfied Hirkala. - Mara spied Brandonb. - Krissie tried to save/saved Segul (not sure if save would have been mentioned if it weren’t neccesary/successful). Things missing from the night-post: - no successful redirects (Popoie/Army Boy #2) - no successful blocks (Purim) Guess these are from inactiveness/no action sent and possibly zombifying. Nothing so far clearly indicates something for certain. So, I have 4 questions for the host hoping some answers might point me in a better-than-random direction. 1. Can you make sense of this statement: “Geshtar knew he was found out, and raced back to the castle.” Because if target is saved, nothing points back at the one who attempted it. Especially if the name in the night-post is just a feature (as suggested in the Signups thread). So why use “found out” in the post? Was there a hint or can we ignore that part of the sentence? 2. In this description “Geshtar: (Mech Rider) Second chance at Mana group (vote can x2)” the ability is that "his vote always counts x2 " or "his vote can count x0/x1/x2" or a classical manipulator "can make any vote count x0/x1/x2"? 3. Do saves always appear in the night-post or only when successful (i.e. the same rule as blocks and redirects appearing in the night-post)? 4. Thanatos can zombify himself? (I admit it's a stretch since this is not a normal trap a Night/Day cycle role, but I wanna know if it's possible)

Nope. Interesting thoughts though. I don't want to answer that question as I consider it a fun-spoiler. Assume an answer, try to decipher and if it doesn't work, assume the converse is true. It's supposed to be a message received from aliens after all All that the OP states is that the message was written down and passed on to you as it was received (e.g. four beeps and a pause were translated as 4 because this is how *we* write 4 using the decimal numbering system).

Off-topic: First Bb, a very classy move. Kudos to you It makes this game much more enjoyable. I also dreamt of doing that in a Mafia as a Indy, just never gotten around for that to happen. I was thinking the same. And it sucks. For both teams of your proposed alliance. Not enough for a vote now as I'm engaged in another heated voting. Will return in approx 3 hours to put a vote.

Yes. There is a logical answer. It's neither of those. That's not a question, but I guess you wanted me to say "yes" to that so: Yes.

I completely forgot about that "on my desk" hint. Nice devil. _ _ _ _ _

Password accepted. System shutting down. Countdown froze at 23 to go. Again, I presume you don't want to share the algorithm, so instead I will ask if you felt it was easy or medium difficulty this time.
