  1. Welcome to the Den, idkgirl. This is one of the most famous puzzles and that's why it is already posted. It is actually one of the most repeated puzzles in this forum. This was posted more than 20 times if I count correctly and it was posted a few hours ago by adiace as well. If you like this type then you might want to check a few similar logic problems.

Reading "Important: READ BEFORE POSTING" (the link is at the top as well) might help you to do a quick search before you post a puzzle that you have not created.

    Enjoy the Den ;)

  2. as already answered here

That's a good idea. It's been already discussed. Actually, something like that should already work - there is a similar setting. However, in practice it does not work. I am waiting for new/stable release of this board before doing any modifications (btw, "Invision Power Board 3.0.0 Release Candidate 1" is already out).
  3. This was posted by Rookie1ja:

An anthropologist studying a primitive tribe in a remote location in the Amazon basin, had uncovered a strange tribal custom. Whereby, if a husband found out his wife was unfaithful to him, he must execute her in a public ceremony in front of the whole tribe on the same day at midnight. It so happened that every man in the tribe knew about every cheating wife except his own, since telling a man about his cheating wife was against the tribal honor code. On the day of his departure, the anthropologist held a tribal meeting and made the announcement: “I know there are unfaithful wives in this tribe.” On the ninth day thereafter all cheating wives were executed at the same time.

How many unfaithful wives were there?

Sorry I don't know how to add links to posts.

just paste the URL in the post - http://brainden.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=28

feel free to add better / more comprehensible explanation of answer

btw, you will see more variations of this puzzle if you search for "josephine"

  4. If you have a funny signature, share it with the rest of us and post it here!

I amended your signature yesterday and today you changed it back. I do not advise to do it again. Refer to signature rules (see "Important: READ BEFORE POSTING" at the top of every forum page).

  5. It would be nice to have a smiley that the writers of riddles can put up when their riddle has been solved, and have it show up in the forum somewhere next to the topic/title.

  6. Welcome to the Den, chicory. Let me direct your attention to rules of this forum (see "Important: READ BEFORE POSTING" above). Especially, the part about doing a quick search before you post old riddles like this one - it is already part of this site (btw, in the original one is mother a "surgeon" and not a "person").

  9. Now we're just having a conversation. I'm eleven too.

And this off-topic conversation was a reason why I suspended Kittykat101 and chidoric for 2 days. If you wish to chat then PM is the appropriate way and not forum threads.

  10. And I thought that making rules of this forum section visible on every page would ensure that they are followed. How naive I was -_-

You can PM me if you spot how you broke the rules.

Note that this is a word riddle and so it should be surprisingly placed in forum section "New Word Riddles". It is also called "Riddle of the Sphynx". It is mentioned as one of word riddle types in the forum description and in the forum rules as well.

  14. Rookie, did you also reduce the number of people that we can CC??

I think we could have CC-ed 4 before... was that necessary?

    As written above

There is one more way which I used earlier - I decreased "Max. Number users allowed to mass PM" to 3.

That happened several weeks ago and it is a good preventive measure.

  15. BabaGanoush / Shakeepuddn / plasmid, you may start a new thread in "Comments and Suggestions" to discuss websites where you found riddles first posted on BrainDen and your view on that. I have no problem with that as long as the original source/link is quoted - so BrainDen.com

  16. Welcome to the Den, zugzwang. I searched for brothers +sisters +none in the whole forum (not limited to any subforum). And there were several topics locked with the same riddle. Actually, I have put it on this website some 4 years ago, too.
