another fine response but not it. works perfectly with the first line of this couplet but hopefully you'll agree that the word I have in mind ties in a little better with the second line. please keep at it. nope, but you're on the right track with the final answer. shhhhh

not that DD Slightly different track maybe. A slightly different tactic will be needed I do fear. See where you're coming from but not it. And good to see ya ham! Correct for #2. Well done! Need something different for #1 which will give maybe more info to the final answer.

Back at work today....deep joy!!! Very nice Wilson, you crushed 3. I was afraid someone would make your guess for 2. which makes a lot of sense but won't help you in the end game. Not it for 1.

Hey Izzy - Well, unfortunately (for many reasons) I PC. At first tried to do a spreadsheet using ascii codes (I blame that other forum for that) but then did it the old fashioned Sunday afternoon way *** Shakee. Much fun, thanks.

The clue's not really denying my hunch but not confirming either. Guess I gotta guess to get this off my chest. Have been thoroughly enjoying this one Shakee despite or maybe beacause of the time it's occupied my thoughts.

a wee bit bigger and I'm still torn over your answer for the forth couplet but cant say too much as it could effect the puzzle with the five answer words in the end.

There are five mini-riddles (one per couplet) each with a one word answer and then the five answers are further involved in a puzzle to find the final answer. Each couplet might contain any numerous kinds of plays on words like homophones, puns, double entendres, etc. (reading them very literally can be helpful). Ultimately though, I would call them what am I's. Here are a couple of links to similar ones from before: PS - your second guess for the third couplet is on track...
