Which weighs more, an ounce of feathers, or an ounce of gold? Then the same question in pounds. (Note: The anwer is not the first to come to mind.)

The real ticket here is in the unit. Feathers are weighed using Avoirdupois scale, while gold is measured in Troy. A Troy oz. is heavier than an Avoirdupois oz., making an ounce of gold heavier than an ounce of feathers.

Again, because of scale usage, they are different. A Troy pound has 12 oz. and Avoirdupois has 16. While Troy ounces are heavier, they aren't 25% heavier than Avoirdupois ounces. Therefore, a pound of Feathers is heavier.

There can be several answers.....

According to physics:

1. If you measure their weight in the presence of air (as on the surface of earth) and then compare them in the vacuum (the space), then the mass of gold will be heavier than that of feather. Beacuse feather have some air filled in the gaps which will evacuate in the space.

2. If you measure their mass in the vacuum and then compare them in the presence of air, then the weight of feather will be heavier than that of gold. reason is same.

Tricky (do not count physics)

3. Their some problem with the measuring method/unit (some troy or something...cant remember) which makes one oz of gold to heavier than feather but in the case of pound it is vice versa.
