Question

Those who are greatest of our time

I placed beneath my feet

I've left my mark upon them freely

Yet thought it no great feat

Still I hold fear, in me ingrained, that allows no rest;

Society will never place me

With brightest and the best

Ok as we had two players work out the answer I am below giving it with an explanation to those who want it

I think this is a fun one so keep trying to get it

For those of little patience

A common pidgeon

Those who are greatest of our time

I placed beneath my feet STATUES

I've left my mark upon them freely YOU CAN GUESS A PIDGEON'S MARK IF YOU'VE EVER SEEN A STATUE IN A PARK (ALSO WORD FREELY SHOULD ASSOCIATE ... BIRD)

Yet thought it no great feat INEED IT IS NOT A FEAT NOT GREAT

Still I hold fear, in me ingrained, that allows no rest; PIDGEONS SCARE EASY AND A RESTLESS (THE WORD INGRAINED CONTAINS "GRAIN" AS IN WHAT BIRDS EAT... IN ME (IN)GRAIN(ED)

Society will never place me

With brightest and the best PIDGEORS ARE CONSIDERED THE LESS BRIGHT AMONG BIRDS AND THIS ONE IS NOT THE BEST OF HIS KIND - THE KIND YOU BREED, SO COMMON PIDGEON, CITY WALKER AND STATUE DEFILER

A postmark?!

Those great of our time - Presidents

Left my mark upon them - the stamp

Fear - Opening a postmarked letter that is not address to you is a crime

No rest - must be delivered (rain, sleet or snow)

Won't be placed with the brightest and the best - marked stamps are generally not collectible

Thank you palmerc7

re your guess - see what you're thinking but no

would not really have them under the feet or leave a "mark on them", and clear on not best but why would we not consider it "the brightest"?

people walking on the roof/catwalk and kids drawing all over them, no bid deal!

Garden Girl please use the spoiler (left of the box you type text in) when giving a possible answer

I like your offered explanations but

what about to placing "below my feet" and why would I need to call a stamp not bright?

CLUE

Those who work out the answer will, among other things, know exactly why I used the following words

greatest

feet

freely

ingrained

no rest

brightest (as in not brightest)

best (as in not best)

also as always one clue is in the title of the riddle - title of the post

one for posterity
