Guest
The bar mystery Jack, Daniel and Steve, 3 schoolmates are going out for a drink after school. They each have 1 coin of 50 cent in their wallet. One drink costs € 1,25. They each give their coin of 50 cent to the waiter, which makes a total of € 1,50... The waiter gives them their change, witch is divided in 5 coins of 5 cent. 1 of those coins stays on the table. Another coin they give to the waiter as a tip. The remaining 3 coins are divided between themselves, which means one one coin of 5 cent for each person. So they've each payed 45 cent for a drink. Cause they each still have 5 cent left of their 50 cent. 3 * 45 cent = € 1,35 + 5 cent (still on the table) + 5 cent (Tip for the waiter) = € 1,45 Q: Where is the remaining 5 cent of the € 1,50 they've started with? 0 plasmid
I'm afraid that a VERY similar riddle has already been posted here at Hotel Bill. I can't blame you for not finding the earlier post by searching the archive, though -- the old post was about people staying at a hotel instead of getting drinks at a bar. Good riddle, though! 0 Guest
they each didn't pay 45 cent for just the drink, they each paid 45 cent for the drink + the 5 cent left on the table + tip. so the equation at the end, "3 * 45 cent = € 1,35 + 5 cent (still on the table) + 5 cent (Tip for the waiter) = € 1,45" actually double counts the 5 cent left on the table and the tip and misses the 5 cent they each kept. factoring all of this in, the total becomes € 1,50. 0 Guest
the equation is wrong, the 5cent on the table and the tip should be subtracted from the 1.35 not add it, making it 1.25. The reason, they subtracted 5cents each to 50 making it 45, so its logical to subtract the tip and the cent on the table.
0 Guest
they each paid 41.67777 cents for the drink. 3*41.67777 is 1.25 and then they each have 5 cents left +the 5 cent tip and 5 cent on the table= €1.

The bar mystery
Jack, Daniel and Steve, 3 schoolmates are going out for a drink after school.
3 * 45 cent = € 1,35 + 5 cent (still on the table) + 5 cent (Tip for the waiter) = € 1,45
Q: Where is the remaining 5 cent of the € 1,50 they've started with?
