Question

Remember my WAI with a theme? Well, I'm naming them WAWs (What are We). As with before, they all have a common theme. Name the theme for brownie points. :)

Now, the first and last stanza are not WAIs, the first do contain clues though. Stanza 2 and the rest (8 in total), each stands for an item/idea in that theme. Some may not be apparent until you figure out the theme.

PS: Some stanzas may seem choppy, but I was playing with the idea since this morning and was eager to get it out of my mind. It was interfering with my other thought processes.

Good luck! ;)

WAW here:

Together we stand,

To bring you joy,

Each member of this little band,

Has a verse in this shocking song.

Note: WAIs start here

The diamond's brother,

A stony flower,

The first likes pyramids,

The next prefers planes and grids.

Another flower,

Destroyer, grower,

You find the largest of us in Africa,

And many more on this terra.

A child of Gaia,

Starts at the heart,

A mantle as the messiah,

A cycle to hit the chart.

Became rich, by and large,

From a humble quarry,

Married with no charge,

Started a vicious circle with great fury,

Lined up on the ray table,

With a '92 and '94 label.

The focusing lenses,

For the eye of heaven,

With mirror in lattices,

To empower the metropolitan.

Unseen to the eye,

Yet farmed where we fly,

The higher the farms lie,

The greater the supply.

A vestige of the past,

By lizards, by and large,

Through millenia they had amassed,

A bore to their discharge,

It obsoletes the mast,

Can we live with its increasing charge?

A mother's heirloom,

Sugar they consume,

They move the negative,

To make you active.

Note: WAIs end here

The end is near,

This is all you'll hear,

Now we ask;

"Name us all, are you up for the task?"

Does it take a plasmid to tell that the last one is
mitochondria?

Hehe. That is correct. It does take a plasmid to tell. ;)

Together we stand,

To bring you joy,

Each member of this little band,

Has a verse in this shocking song.

The diamond's brother, - Diamond and coal (graphite) are made of essentially the same thing - carbon

A stony flower, - Coal is made of fossilized plants

The first likes pyramids, - Diamond's carbons are arranged in pyramids

The next prefers planes and grids. - While coal/graphite carbons are in planar lattices.

Answer: Coal (SvenJOLLY)

Another flower, - Flow-er, water flows

Destroyer, grower, - A river can destroy or allow growth

You find the largest of us in Africa, - The Niles is in Africa

And many more on this terra. - Terra = earth, you can find many more rivers on earth

Answer: Rivers (SvenJOLLY)

A child of Gaia, - Gaia (Earth) also geo

Starts at the heart, - geothermal heat starts at the core

A mantle as the messiah, - The earth's mantle brings the heat out

A cycle to hit the chart. - Most geothermal plants use a binary cycle to generate electricity

Answer: Geothermal (Pickett)

Became rich, by and large, - Uranium/plutonium ores are usually enriched

From a humble quarry, - From the mines

Married with no charge, - To start a chain reaction, a neutron (no charge) is forcefully shot into the nucleus

Started a vicious circle with great fury, - Chain reaction

Lined up on the ray table, - Both elements are in the actinide series - meaning ray - in the periodic table

With a '92 and '94 label. - 92 = uranium, 94 = plutonium

Answer: Radium, Plutonium (Nuclear Power) (SvenJOLLY)

The focusing lenses, - Lenses are used to focus the sun's rays

For the eye of heaven, - Eye of heaven, sun

With mirror in lattices, - Mirrors in grids

To empower the metropolitan. - To power the city

Answer: Solar panels/plant (chidoric)

Unseen to the eye, - Wind can't be seen,

Yet farmed where we fly, - Wind farms

The higher the farms lie,

The greater the supply. - Higher altitude has greater wind speeds, generating more power

Answer: Wind (SvenJOLLY)

A vestige of the past, - From a long time ago

By lizards, by and large, - A lot of petroleum is generated from dinosaur fossils

Through millenia they had amassed, - A long time to make

A bore to their discharge, - A bore - making a hole - discharge - release

It obsoletes the mast, - Ships that used the wind can now use petrol

Can we live with its increasing charge? - Anyone who drives will get this one :)

Answer: Fossil fuel/petroleum (SvenJOLLY)

A mother's heirloom, - Mitochondria are inherited from mothers

Sugar they consume, - They use glucose

They move the negative, - Move the electrons

To make you active. - To generate energy

Answer: Mitochondria (plasmid)

The end is near,

This is all you'll hear,

Now we ask;

"Name us all, are you up for the task?"

THEME: Energy plants/fuel
