Question

I received notification this morning about a private message from a member of this forum. That doesn't sound particularly ominous, except that I just joined this week and have only posted once. The member name was pinupka.

What IS ominous is that I also received another message just like it from a totally different forum, from the same user. The message were titled "Hello" and contained a link to another Website. I did NOT link to that site.

Anyone who does might have damage to their computers. I would ask the forum admins or moderators to please investigate this user and potentially kick them out of the forum.

My wife recieved a similar PM from the same person. She is new as well. The administrators have been notified and I believe that his account has been disabled. Thanks for reporting it ;)

Welcome to the Den :)

I have noticed the inappropriate PMs sent by pinupka. I have banned that account and IP one hour after it was registered. Unfortunately, within that 1 hour pinupka was able to send more PMs. I have also forbidden to send the mentioned URL (in post or PM), as you might have noticed. So it can be entered only as text and not as a link. I have also forbidden to register with email from certain mail server.

It is not possible to prevent every spam message. For instance, it is not possible to blacklist all inappropriate sites in advance (imagine a list of millions xxx websites, that still changes). However, I and both moderators always catch inappropriate behavior soon enough.

Thanks.

I also recieved a pm from that user. My computer has been running slowly since then. I suspect that user has hacked into my computer. Thanks for banning the user. We can't have people like that on BD.

Got the PM too. Can't remember if I clicked/opened the link or not though..

Rookie, can you read our PMs?

I can not read your PMs by default. I actually could but I won't since I respect your privacy.

Just an advise:

Do not click on the link in the above mentioned PM or any similar suspicious links.

OHHHH NOOO!!!!! I just tried to open up B.D. a second ago, and BAMMM! It wouldn't work! It gave me.... this [copy and pasted it]

IPS Driver Error

There appears to be an error with the database.

You can try to refresh the page by clicking here

Does this have anything to do with a possible B.D. meltdown assc. w/ that spammer, or damage he/she might have done to B.D.?

That has no connection with spammer. My webhost might have issues with their MySQL server. That happens sometimes mainly due to high traffic - only for a couple seconds/minutes.
